Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

I know it's only preseason, but I'm glad I turned off the game and started playing Halo about six minutes in. All I saw in that time was a worst case scenario brought to life of what this team can do this year. I hope they look better when things get going for real.

We will be fine...Not sure how many actually watched the FIBA world championships, but LBJ looked to of really stepped up his game in terms of being able to shoot the ball better...I know that the line was like 1 foot closer, but with an improved shot that makes the entire team that much better...

I really think Gooden is going to continue to improve, and become a much bigger part of the team like he was in the playoffs last season, when I actually caught myself saying get the ball to Gooden...

Of course Lebron has always liked to shoot from one foot inside the 3pt line. :p

CAVALIERS INSIDER
Ankle bone bruise slowing new acquisition Simmons

The Cavaliers, already weak in depth at the backup power forward and backup center posi tion, just got weaker.
Anderson Varejao is out because he re mains un signed and newly ac quired Cedric Simmons, who was signed to help pick up the slack, has been slowed because of a sore left ankle that was injured over the summer.
An MRI taken on Wednesday night revealed a bone bruise. Simmons has started treatment, but no timetable has been established yet for his return.

James expects improvement

Saturday, October 13, 2007 Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter
Despite co-hosting the ESPY's, hosting "Saturday Night Live" and playing for Team USA this summer, LeBron James is energized and ready for this coming season.
James is focused and thinks that this could be his best season.
"It could be, but it all comes with the team's success," James said. "If I improve that much during the off-season, then our team's going to improve, and I think that's going to happen."

Sonics 96, Cavaliers 90
Offense is not in zone
Despite warning, Cavs not ready for defense
By Brian Windhorst Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Saturday, Oct 13, 2007
CLEVELAND: Before the preseason game Friday, Seattle SuperSonics coach P.J. Carlesimo called Cavaliers coach Mike Brown and asked if he wanted to work against a zone defense.
''I said, 'Yeah, sure, that'd be great,''' Brown said.
Be careful what you ask for.
The Sonics threw a giant helping of zone defense at the Cavs, who were not ready for it despite the warning. Then the Sonics showed off their new up-tempo style offense, which the Cavs weren't ready for, either. The result was a 96-90 exhibition loss, the Cavs' final business before leaving town for a historic trip to China.

Dispatch
Riley indicated that Cook could be headed for a 20-game assignment in the NBA Developmental League.
Cook, who played one season at Ohio State, had a golden opportunity in Miami, where star guard Dwyane Wade is not expected back from shoulder and knee surgeries until late November.
The Herald also reported that the Heat is speaking with the agent for Cavaliers free agent Sasha Pavlovic.

He is a restricted free agent, which would mean we would get draft picks right?

No, but the Cavs have basically said they will match any offer for Sasha or AV. That's one of the reasons teams haven't gone after either very aggressively. The other reason being that teams have no idea how good these two would be sans Lebron.

Brian Windhorst made a great point in his blog the other day. Remember how Garnett pretty much always had terrible teams around him? Do you know why that happened? It was because the management in Minnesota was giving marginal role players long, inflated contracts.

Let's say hypothetically that Lebron wants the Cavs to sign Varejao, no matter what. So the Cavs give him 8 million dollars per, and he's signed. Three years from now, the Cavs need to get a second scorer for whatever reason, but they can't make a move because they have ten million dollars tied up in Varejao. I love Varejao as a player, but I would have killed the Cavs front office if they gave him anything resembling a big contract. Same thing goes for Sasha. You don't win championships giving players like that 8-10 million dollar contracts. You just don't.

Exactly like the Patriots in the NFL...The only that hurt us this year is that we didnt have the draft picks to make up for letting them walk if we have to...

I don't think I can handle another choke. This years been tough, twice the Buckeyes, then the Cavs don't even win 1? To finish it off the Indians suck when it counts.:( Atleast I'm not a Chargers fan, that woulda meant suicide, the 06/07 Super Bowl was theirs to lose.

I don't know about this year- we lost last year due to no "team", oh big things changin this year. Expecting a big pickup like KG or something, but we wind up with, oh yea, little to nothing.

Your perspective is skewed. The Buckeyes made it to the Nat'l Championship in the two biggest sports in college. Yes they came up short, but they were there. Where was TSUN?

Then you have the Cavs beat the Stons who were supposed to kick our ass. The Cavs last year had a great run as an overrated team in a weak Confrence, but hopefully it is just a glimpse of the future.

Then there is the Tribe! What a great run they had. No one thought they would make the ALCS. Hell the Tigers were supposed to win the division going away. Think how we handled the Tigs in Sept. Great baseball by a very young team who will be around for awhile. Then they beat the evil empire in 4. Fuck the yankees. That was awsome handeling them. Yes they should have beaten the BoSox once they went up 3-1. They didn't, but they will be back. They are a fun ball club, and after this year, anything less than the ALCS will be a disappointment. Go Tribe! Thanks for making baseball relevant in Cleveland again.

Oh, and lets not forget your #1 ranked Buckeyes, in a rebuilding year, where no one else has taken care of their schedule. There is along way to go before the title game, but damn its good to be a Buckeye. Take care of business and we are in the Nat'l Championship game two years in a row, this time as an underdog with a chip. JT will get it done. Then the recruiting classes we are bringing in. (Brian Rolle, Sanzo, these are the underrated guys, not even the 5*). It's great to be a Buckeye.

The BB Bucks should be solid and will challenge for a 3rd straight B10 title (at least I think it would be three). We have a great coach who is bringing in great recruiting classes and great young men. See Conley, Oden. You win with people. Thats what it is about as a Buckeye.

Lets be honest, we are not TSUN, nor would we ever want to be. Life is good!

Go Bucks! Beat PSU, on the road, under the lights with the white-out. "Ohio State does't need white-outs because we dont make mistakes."

:oh:

BTW Cavs need some help to get to the pinnacle, but they will eventually.

CAVALIERS
Dwayne Jones finds his center role

Wednesday, October 24, 2007 Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter
Dwayne Jones already has secured a position with the Cavaliers, but Jones' motor continues to run. The same high-octane and physical approach that helped earn him a roster spot is stuck in drive.
"I'm not in a position to calm down," Jones said. "I've played 18 games in my career. I've been in the league for two years. I played four games last year. I'm hoping I can play four games in the first week of this coming season."
Based on training camp and based on his play in preseason games, Jones will earn plenty of time early this season. Since it appears Anderson Varejao does not plan to sign with the Cavs anytime soon and Cedric Simmons is not 100 percent with a left ankle bruise, Jones will become part of the rotation, primarily as a backup center. He has gone from a player with a partial guaranteed contract to a one-year deal.
