Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

Holy crap. Reading the last page, I expected a 15-20 point margin right now. Up by 41 with 113 points on the board, and still 5+ minutes in the 4th. Good grief!

EDIT - make that a 45 point lead. :yow1:

Besides Z who is 10-10...

Larry has the best +/- efficiency rating with +30 which is very efficient and that is without him shooting the ball that well...

i know you're the resident larry hughes shill, but give me a break.

here is the stat line you need to look at:

ppg: 9.0
apg: 2.3
t.o.: 1.96
fg% 33.6
3pt%: 28
rpg: 3.1

laughable period.

That well ?????!!!! You're giving him way too much credit. His shooting is pathetic. Not enough arc and not enough baskets.

If ever a guy could benefit from a change of scenery, it would have to be him. His shooting sucks and he's dumb. Dumb because, when you miss that many jumpers, you have to realize maybe I should try taking higher percentage shots, like say layups or driving it to the hole.

His only 2 baskets were dunks. He missed 3 layups and 3 jumpers.

Ok, enough beating the dead horse. Z's jumpers looked very smooth last night. Pavlovic will need to have more than 1 decent game before people give him a break. Nice to see such a big win with LBJ only taking 13 shots.

I had a feeling going into this game that the Wiz were going to win. They've been playing very good lately. Way to prove me wrong, Cavs.

Devin Brown, who paced Cleveland's bench with 15 points, puts up a running shot against Washington's Nick Young in the fourth quarter while the Cavaliers starters rested.

CLEVELAND -- LeBron James showered, dressed and then sat down to analyze the evening's boxscore.
With so many eye-popping digits to digest, it took longer than usual.
A whole lot longer.
James scored 23 points, Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 24 without missing from the floor and the Cleveland Cavaliers routed the Washington Wizards 121-85 last night for their season-high fifth straight victory.
"Offensively we were unbelievable, nearly perfect," James said. "It was pretty dang gone good."

Cavaliers report
Cavs dig out of early slump
Recent surge nearly puts them back on pace of last season
By Brian Windhorst

MIAMI: It has taken a month of good play and some fortunate turns of luck and the schedule, but the Cavaliers are nearly out of the hole that they dug to start the season.
After a 3-0 road trip, including a victory in San Antonio, the Cavs come home at 22-18, which is just two games off the pace of last season through 40 games. That's hard to fathom after a 10-14 start, but 12 wins in the past 16 games have them peaking at the standings again.
The game Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena is the midseason point for the club and a victory over the Washington Wizards would put them into the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. It also would give the Cavs a season-high five-game win streak.

Cavs' record-setting third quarter buries Wizards
By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Thursday, Jan 24, 2008

CLEVELAND: The Cavaliers hit midseason Wednesday, but they were not in midseason form. They were in otherworldly, out-of-body-experience, deep-in-the-zone form.
No doubt that they have been hot of late, but this was the cherry. The Cavs might go the rest of the season and not play as well as they did in this one, hammering the Washington Wizards 121-85 at Quicken Loans Arena. It not only moved the Cavs (23-18) past the Wizards (22-18) in the Eastern Conference standings for the moment, but it also sent a little message the Wizards' way.
''We played them without LeBron (in December), and I certainly remember LeBron saying very shortly after that he was going to remember all the butt-kicking they got while he was out . . . and that he was going to get some payback,'' Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said.
''This was one of the those paybacks.''

Last night was impressive, but I'm always afraid when they have a game like that because it seems to start a slump. If they can somehow win the next 3 I think they will put the NBA on notice that they can contend with anyone.

CAVS INSIDER
Gibson hoping for call to dial it up

Thursday, January 24, 2008 Branson Wright

Plain Dealer Reporter

Daniel "Boobie" Gibson is waiting by the phone, hoping for that call he's been longing for.
He wants an invitation to the 3-point shooting contest, to be held during next month's All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
"It would be an honor to get invited," Gibson said. "I take a lot of pride in making big shots and 3s when I get them. That would be a great thing to get a chance to display what I'm doing."

Varejao brings the Cavs energy
Cavaliers Notebook

By Chris Beaven

CLEVELAND The golden brown, floppy hair makes Anderson Varejao impossible to ignore.

Not even his coach could pass up the opportunity to kid the Cavs super sub when, almost as if on cue, he walked by Mike Brown as he was talking up his forward?s game.

?I love your hair,? Brown yelled over to Varejao as he headed to the court to warm up.

Varejao?s hair would make any 1980s hair-metal guitarist jealous. But it?s his game that Brown and the Cavs truly love.

?He?s been terrific,? Brown said.

The 6-foot-10 Varejao is their first big man off the bench. The Cavs often are at their best with him on the floor.

Ohio.com - Injured left foot sidelines Pavlovic

Injured left foot sidelines Pavlovic Cavs' starting shooting guard will miss six-to-eight weeks
By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Friday, Jan 25, 2008
Things were going just a little too well for the Cavaliers.
Reality bit the team Thursday when MRI and CT scans revealed a tear in Sasha Pavlovic's left foot. The injury, termed a mid-foot sprain, is expected to keep Pavlovic out six-to-eight weeks. He will be in a cast for the next week and then will be re-evaluated.
Ironically it happened during one of the apexes of the season, the third quarter Wednesday when the Cavs were in the process of outscoring the Washington Wizards 43-17. Pavlovic landed on a Wizards player's foot and was forced to leave the game.
The Cavs have won 11-of-13 games since getting their entire team healthy and returning to last year's starting lineup, which included Pavlovic at shooting guard. And although he's been in a shooting slump for much of the season, he was emerging this week, scoring 10 points with four assists in Miami on Monday and putting up 13 points with a career-high seven assists Wednesday.
''It will hurt our team. Sasha was finally starting to find his groove,'' LeBron James said. ''Hopefully guys will step up.''
Coach Mike Brown did not say who he planned to put in the starting lineup in place of Pavlovic, but it will likely be Devin Brown. Pavlovic, who is shooting just 35 percent this season, was primarily used for his defensive ability and his size. Minutes for Damon Jones will also likely increase.
The biggest issue might be how the Cavs deal with altering the rotation, which Mike Brown has struggled with at times this season.

Of any of the starters Pavs is the one they can probably deal with losing the easiest. Gibson and Devin Brown will get some extra minutes. I wonder if Shannon Brown will get a little time as well? I would love to see what Boobie's shooting would look like in the starting lineup.

I am going to assume that we will now put Boobie in the starting lineup...

This is a huge blow, we were starting to come together, and Sasha was starting to step his game up to where we all know he can play...

I would hope this means that Shannon starts to see more time...It could also mean that LBJ is not going to be able to come off the court much, because other than Devin Brown we don't have anyone that can play the 3.
