Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

I wonder what happens if you buy out a players contract. If say they buy out Snow can they then then use his contract in a trade that the team that receives him won't have to play? The Cavs are stuck with most deals they could make because they don't want to bring on extra salary. I hope they can make a move for a Kidd or a Bibby, but I wouldn't give up a lot for either of those guys (no starter for Bibby and Gooden and Hughes for Kidd at the most). Nobody is going to take Hughes and that is the only big contract that the Cavs have to get rid of. I would trade anyone except for Lebron, Gibson, and Varejao. As much as I would like to see the Cavs make a move I would rather them do nothing than over pay or make a bad trade again.
The biggest problem is that they have only made 2 good draft picks since they picked Lebron and they let one of those picks walk (Kapono). Noted Luke Jackson and Shannon Brown seemed like good picks at the time. I won't even talk about why they didn't have a first round pick last season. Let's just hope they can start drafting better over the next few years because that will be the best way to build a team around Lebron.
I would love it Redd got tired of playing for crappy Bucks teams. Imagine what the Cavs could to with him.

I don't really care, LeBron is being wasted and something creative needs to happen to make this a legit title contender. He needs someone who can create for him, plain and simple.

Creativity is the key. If Danny f'ing Ainge can manage to trade away pretty much the entire roster of the worst team in the NBA from a year ago plus its draft picks and get back Ray Allen, KG & Big Baby then Danny Ferry should be able to manage to scrounge up a halfway decent PG and find away unload some of the dead weight on this roster.

Cavaliers: Breakthrough for James extends Heat's skid to 14

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:56 AM
By Tim Reynolds

Associated Press

MIAMI -- LeBron James' run of futility in south Florida is over. The misfortune of the Miami Heat continues.
James scored 28 points and had five assists assists, lifting the Cleveland Cavaliers past the Heat 97-90 last night -- his first win in nine career trips to Miami and enough to send the 2006 NBA champions to their 14th straight loss, the second-worst slide in team history.

With the Cavs playing better lately (10-2 since thier Christmas Day win over the Heat) and looking like the team that won the East last year, what do they do at the trade deadline?

IMO if you get an offer for Hughes, you take it in a second because he is just dead weight. If the rumor of Crawford for Hughes comes to fruition, great, because then we'll have another scorer who can learn to play some defense. Other than an offer for Hughes, you only make any other trades if the offer clearly benefits you and you aren't giving up key pieces in return (Boobie, Varejao, even Z, and of course Lebron). I'm not sold on Bibby, I don't think he is the penetrator/distributor the Cavs need at this point. He is also injury prone which is too big a risk for me. If somehow we could rob the Nets of Kidd for Drew and Larry, look out for the Cavs come playoff time. Unfortunatly I can't see any scenario where the Nets would make that trade.

CLEVELAND -- A tough three-week stretch that starts tonight against the Washington Wizards will give the Cavaliers a measure of where they stand.
Cleveland (22-18) plays nine potential playoff teams in its next 12 games leading up to the All-Star break Feb. 15-17.
In addition to the Wizards (22-17), Cleveland plays the Phoenix Suns (30-12), Los Angeles Lakers (27-12), Portland Trailblazers (25-16), Boston Celtics (33-6), Houston Rockets (22-19), Denver Nuggets (24-16), Orlando Magic (26-17) and San Antonio Spurs (26-13).

I would take Bibby if it was in a move for the Queens to clear cap space (i.e. Snow(or any other bench guy with 2 years left), Newble, and Shannon Brown for Bibby and one of the Queens 500K players). I wouldn't give up Gooden for him. Kidd on the other hand I would trade Hughes and Gooden in a heartbeat. Whatever they do just don't give up more 1st round draft picks.

What's the recent news on Shannon Brown?
I saw that he filled in for LBJ awhile back and played pretty well in that role. He seems to be getting less and less playing time as the season goes on.

He lacks consistency. The Cavs would like him to step up and play a regular role, but it does not look like he is going to end up fitting in up in Cleveland.
