Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

it took another lbj superstar performance for the cavs to win, as the rest of the team is useless.

drew gooden is climbing my hate list as never have i seen someone with so much talent be so absolutely clueless as to how to play the game of basketball.

also, there was one segment that drew my ire. they showed the bench after AV was fouled on a breakaway by farmar, in which he made the basket for an "and one". eric snow was on the bench next to shannon brown, and snow was asking him what the proper defensive play is there. brown ignored him. snow tells him how he's trying to pass on some knowledge to him and brown needs to listen, but brown pretty much ignored him.

fratello was doing commentary on the matter and seemed rather irked by it. but it's a clear indication as to why brown rides the bench.

Kobe Bryant of the Lakers leaves Larry Hughes of the Cavaliers behind on a drive.

CLEVELAND -- The two superstars wanted to guard each other in the final moments: Kobe on LeBron. LeBron on Kobe.
It had to end like that.
"I didn't even ask," James said. "I just told Sasha (Pavlovic) to go somewhere else."
James scored 33 points and shut out Bryant when the NBA's top two scorers went one-on-one in the final 2:23, and the Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back from a dismal loss with a 94-90 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers last night.

CAVALIERS INSIDER
Coach, James disregard bump

Friday, December 21, 2007 Branson Wright

Plain Dealer Reporter
The replay of the bump between LeBron James and coach Mike Brown during the fourth quarter of the Cavaliers' loss to the New York Knicks on Wednesday got plenty of air time.
After a timeout, James was coming off the floor, looking in the direction of the referees while Brown was headed onto the court to discuss the next move with his assistant coaches. The two bumped shoulders and proceeded to walk in opposite directions.
The Cavs were in the midst of a blowout to the lowly Knicks and many observers wondered whether James and Brown are having issues. Brown and James both said there is not a problem.

Grit outshines star power as Cavaliers top Lakers, says Bill Livingston

Friday, December 21, 2007 Bill Livingston
Plain Dealer Columnist
It was supposed to be sun and moon vs. the stars and angels' choirs.
Leading scorer in the league vs. No. 2.
LeBron vs. Kobe.
No last names needed.
Instead, the Cavaliers beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 94-90, Thursday night, and the superstars were not aligned. The angels were mute at the end.
Guarded in the clutch by LeBron James, Kobe Bryant missed two shots. One was a 21-footer and the other a 28-foot 3-pointer, the latter after his own rebound of teammate Andrew Bynum's missed free throw. The three was for the lead, and it looked like it was ticketed for the heart of the net. But it missed and Daniel Gibson, flattened in the rebounding scrum, made the foul shots that clinched it.

Hughes needs to be consistant. Hell, I'd take 25% of the time.

Right now, he's showing up, maybe, once every ten games. He looked like a fool on several occasions last night, and I couldn't believe some of the things that happened.

That, and how the hell did we lose to the Knicks, BY 18?!? It wasn't on down here, wtf happened? :shake:

Not gonna happen. He got a fat contract and now he sucks. Go figure.

See above.

The Cavs are LeBron, Boobie, 9 stiffs and a functional retard for a coach. Boobie can be a good one, but for some reason mike brown doesn't want him shooting over Larry Hughes. I don't get it either. Like I said earlier in the thread, the best thing for this team LONG TERM would be to go belly up this year so they can get a capable coach and start rebuilding once these bloated contracts are off the books. The time is ticking on the LeBron clock...

Every second I get closer to shitting my pants, too. :(

I am one who thinks LeBron is of a limited minority that likes to win, so he'll be out of Cleveland, first chance he gets, unless we do something now.

We need to make a huge trade, hell, get rid of everybody but LBJ, Boobie, and Z. They've been the only consistant, dependable people. Anybody else can go to the highest bidder.

I'm going to have to throw you a big FUCK NO on trading LBJ !!!!!

Although, after LBJ, I would easily take Howard as the next best player. LeBron continues to get better every season, he's just surrounded by turds. Not Ferry's fault, but nothing can be done, until those turds are moved or c ome off the books.

I think they meet with LBJ at the right time and work on an extension with the promise that involve him on what players to try to get when the turds are off the books. He's already the NBA glamor-boy, even playing in Cleveland. Playing in a big market won't change that very much.

After the 08/09 season, Snow,Gooden,Marshall, WildThing and Amon Ones will be done. I'm assuming AV exercises his out. That will free up almost $31 mil. After 09/10, Z, Hughes and Pavlovic are off and that clears another $30 mil. Thats alot of $$ to have in back to back seasons. Of course LBJ can opt out after 09/10, so their signings after 08/09 will be critical to the future of the franchise.

I'd rather have LBJ and Howard. Is that one of the choices ?

who overpaid for Hughes and Jones? I know hind-sight is 20/20 but the deal for Hughes reeked of desperation after falling flat on Ray Allen, Bobby Simmons, and Michael Redd

What the hell would you have done? The fans and LBJ would have raised hell if they signed no one and pocketed the money.
Huges last 3 years in Wash. he averaged 17.8 pts, 5.4reb and 3.4 assists. He shot 43% during that period. Who would have predicted he would be such a stiff? Hughes was clearly the best guy readily available after those 2.

Hughes is much worse than anyone thought, but that hindsight shit is bullshit.

Precisely why I loathe Hughes and not the front office for signing him. He got his contract and has been mailing it in since. Fuck that piece of shit.

The only good thing about this horrible stretch of games is it will force the Cavs to make moves. Both with players and Mike Brown. Get Kidd or Andre Miller and sign Boykins if they have the money. I'd love to move Hughes to Washington since that is the only place he would be welcome. Maybe the Cavs will get lucky and get a lottery pick this season. For me the only players I wouldn't trade are Lebron and Gibson. I wouldn't give up Gooden or Andy unless it's a really good deal. Andy can't be traded for 3 months after he signed, which will probably be past the trading deadline.
