Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

Nobody wants Larry Hughes (and his money)
Nobody wants Eric Snow
Nobody want Damon Jones
Nobody wants Ira Newble

These guys are only in any trade that gives us equal shit in return.

As of right now that is correct. But Snow, Jones and Marshall have something in common. Their deals expire after next season. Those players will become very valuable near the trade deadline and next summer to teams trying to free up cap space. So for now these players will give us shit in return. But if we are patient we can unload them next summer for some quality players.

Heck, you can throw in Varejao this summer too as a tradable expiring contracts.

Just remember... expiring contracts are considered GOLD to alot of teams.

Some act like the season is over, but we will be putting the same team that we had on the court last year on the court here in about 2 weeks...

With LBJ, Hughes, and Wild thing coming back...

LBJ is playing at a higher level this year...

Yeah it would be great to get Kidd, but at this point we don't have the pieces, and we don't have them to get any big time all star to go along side LBJ...

We got to the finals last year with the team, and it was showing early in the season in close games that they would not be phased much like they were last year...

We are only about a month into the season and the guys like Snow, Newble, Dwayne Jones, Damon Jones, etc. will not be getting as many minutes when all these guys are back...

No reason to give up on the season just yet...

I don't know if Andy will be all that valuable since anyone who trades for him will want to keep him and have to pay 12-13 million a season (sarcasm). Of course it is easier to sign someone if they already play for you. That way you are only fighting a handful of teams that have cap space.

The season isn't over, but now we are going to be fighting for a 4-5 playoff spot if everyone can stay healthy from here on out. When healthy I think the Cavs can be one of the best teams in the East if not the NBA as they showed in the first Celtics game. They seem to be worse this year when Lebron is hurt compared to past years.
I just took a look at the salary structure and the Cavs could have a ton of cap space in 3 years when pretty much everyone is up to resign. Out of the players that will make good money that will get new contracts before then I only see them spending to keep Gibson, Gooden, and maybe Varejao if he gets over his crazy idea of self worth. Those three will be making less than 30 mil so the Cavs would still have over 30 mil to spend on new salary. Once they hit the cap they can resign Lebron and Sasha. It will be time for Z to retire and you let Hughes walk. Noted Hughes will be very tradeable during that last season, but that will hurt the salary cap come the summer. I'm hoping by that point guys will want to come play with Lebron in Cleveland.

I just think that with the extra year of playing together and another year under most of these young guys belts that we are an even better team this year with everyone healthy...

The Cavs have shown that when healthy, they can play with anyone in the east. As long as we have Lebron, we will always be contenders in the east. With that said, he needs to be healthy and he needs some pieces around him to make plays. Gibson and Pavs are key IMO. Andy should shore up the defense, but we need Gibson and Pavs to average about 30 ppg for us to be really successful. We have one of the best frontcourts in the league, so the backcourt really needs to step up so we can do some damage.

We aren't out of the central race by any means...with our full team I don't think we will lose the stupid games that we were losing last year...

We are only 4.5 behind Detroit...That is with us dropping 5 in a row...

Orlando will probably drop off at some point, so the only team at this early point in the season that is going to be hard to catch is Boston...Really would like to get the 2 or 3 seed as I would rather not see Boston in the second round if we got the 4 or 5 seed...

One other thing I want to add...We gotta give mad props to Ferry...While he didnt make a big splash in free agency this year...What he did do was not overpay for guys, ended up getting them at bargain prices, and picked up some depth in Devin Brown...While some might think he is a stiff, but with Hughes, Sasha, boobie he isnt going to see as many minutes as he has and we will have him to concentrate more on defense, and the occasional shots on offense...Just adds depth and allows us to not have to play DJ, Newble, Snow, as much...Big Props to Ferry...Once we have the stupid contracts off the books we will be able to make a splash...

NBA roundup: James to miss fifth in a row

Saturday, December 8, 2007 3:29 AM

From wire services

LeBron James didn't practice yesterday and will miss his fifth straight game with a sprained left index finger when the Cavaliers play tonight in Charlotte.
In speaking to reporters for the first time since he sprained the finger on Nov. 28 in Detroit, James had a message for the Cavaliers' opponents.
"Teams better get their wins now," he said. "They try to kill us and talk trash about us now. ? When we get our guys back, it's going to be a different story."

Continued.........

He's not leaving. He'll be offered up part of the franchise. He's LeBron F'n James, he'd be marketable playing in Siberia.

Now, when we have all that cap space in '10, I say we break the bank and bring back Benedict Boozer. Dick or not, he's got a bad ass game and he's wasted in Utah.
