Against starry Celts, James stands tallest

He stood in the center of the sound, at the foul line, where past misses used to spook him, as the chant crashed down. "M-V-P! M-V-P!"
Normally, a player shooting critical free throws at the end of a big game at home is granted a scope of quietness reserved for either a golfer over a putt or a man in the grave. But James hit four straight free throws as a sellout crowd at The Q proclaimed the prize that seems his for the taking this season.
He scored 38 points Tuesday, 14 (in 15 tries) at the foul line, with 13 assists in a 109-104 overtime victory over the early season's darlings, the Boston Celtics.

When Anderson Varejao told ESPN.com that he's become so frustrated with contract negotiations that he doesn't want to play for the Cavaliers anymore, many wondered if it was Varejao speaking for himself, or his agent Dan Fegan, who has the reputation as a shrewd negotiator and malcontent.
Former Cavs guard Ricky Davis said he is positive Fegan is behind this stalemate. Fegan was Davis' agent for two years.
"He doesn't need to be an agent," said Davis, about Fegan. "He does dirty stuff, under-the-table things. [Varejao] needs to change agents immediately if he wants to get this thing done."

Plain Dealer Reporter
Boston may have the best record in the NBA, but Celtics coach Doc Rivers says the defending Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers are the team to beat.
"We haven't done anything," Rivers said after Tuesday's shootaround at The Q. "We've played 12 games. We've done nothing. We've never won a playoff game. We've never gone through anything. We don't mind you guys picking us, but we know it's not true yet. We've got to go out and prove that.
"The Cavs have proven they can win in the playoffs and win big games. The Celtics have proven that we can make summer acquisitions, and that's about it."

Auburn Hills, Mich. -- The long-awaited rematch between the Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons lost its luster at halftime on Wednesday night.
LeBron James, the hottest player in the NBA, was finally stopped. James suffered a sprain of his left index finger late in the second quarter and sat out the second half as the Cavs got blown out by the Pistons, 109-74, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
