Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

Is anybody getting worried that Lebron might wear himself out carrying this team on his back?

He's been absolutely amazing. Don't get me wrong. But I, for one, don't count it as a good thing that that we need Lebron to put up ridiculous numbers every game just to barely win.

We're in for it on Sunday v. Boston.

Great game. Gooden outplayed KG, Z outplayed Perkins and LBJ outplayed everyone. Ir sure helped that Allen shot 5-15 from the field.

The big three are great for the Celts, but Rondo is like a young Eric Snow without the defense. Big Baby looked good in limited minutes.

I wish Gibby would continue driving to the basket instead of just waiting behind the line.

The Cavs bench is putrid. D. Jones, D. Brown, Newble, D. Jones. Wild Thing better get back or get traded soon. They're winning, but when they need to rely on the bench, they'll lose.

Great game tonight...We will probably lay an egg tomm. night in Detroit after a big game like this, but you have to love what we showed tonight...We showed tonight that we can play with anyone in the East, and IMO anyone in the league...Maybe not for 7 games, but if LBJ can play the way he is playing right now and we can get the shooting we have got from guys like Boobie, DJ, and Sasha who is coming on and Drew and Z continue to play so well down low we have a very solid 7 man rotation if you throw in Devin Brown...

I think the thing we have going for us is us going so deep in the playoffs last season it seems to really help us this year in close games...

I don't think having LBJ carry us is going to effect us that much, because even know he is doing a lot of scoring I think it is coming easier this year than it has been the last couple years...

I think that Mike Brown has taken the reigns off the guys and they are running and gunning more and more, and LBJ isnt having to do as much 1 on 4 and really have to take the banging going to the hole, as he is getting easier buckets in transistion, and he also has to feel that he is getting more help with guys knocking down the open looks more so than they have done in the past...

I think if we could get Dwayne Jones to step up to where he can give solid minutes, and I think it is a blessing in disguise kinda having Donyell sitting out part of the year and his legs won't be as dead later in teh season when we get him back...

If Dwayne Jones steps his game up, or we do sign and trade Andy and pick up something that could help us off the bench we will not be a 6th seed like some were saying early in the season...

a few points:

dwayne jones simply doesn't have the talent to step his game up in any capacity. it's far more important to get simmons back and healthy to take those minutes from jones.

i don't think you have to worry about lbj wearing down as the season rolls on. Z is the one that you should be concerned about.

there has been some scuttle about a sign and trade deal with phoenix, AV for Boris Diaw. however, that just may be some clamoring by a desperate sideshow bob.

Jones brings hustle, and he is still very young...I think that the staff sees a little something there...I am not talking about being a big time scorer, just someone to steal minutes, and bring energy to the floor much in a way that Andy did, but not as well...

I agree on Simmons, lots of potential there...

If that deal goes down, That would be amazing and we would have a loaded backcourt...

Diaw is the perfect guy to either put in the starting lineup or bring off the bench and we could run up and down the court...

With him I would love to see a lot of:

Boobie, Diaw, Sasha, LBJ, Gooden...

We could run the floor like crazy, have shooters at every single position, and the fastest team in the league...Diaw is the fastest pg or one of them in the league, LBJ at the PF is the fastest there, Gooden at the center has to be one of the fastest, and Sasha and Boobie are very fast...

We might struggle to rebound and match up down low with teams, but it would be a great change of pace...

We can dream can't we...

A key point AV just doesn't get...

EVERYONE is better when LeBron is on your team...

When you are the 4th or 5th best guy on the floor for YOUR team, you get more opportunities... less attention spent on you by the defense... if he goes to another team and is truly one of the better guys on the floor... he'll suck even worse on the offensive end...

Another key point AV doesn't get... the Cavs cannot get better over paying and constantly dealing with a payroll that is not in sync with performance... you can bet LBJ understands that... he can readily see that this team is handcuffed by the out of balance payroll... yes, LBJ likes Andy... but he won't like him as much if Andy becomes part of the payroll problem that is holding the Cavs back

And lastly, Andy doesn't seem to understand you only have so many primo years... and he is forfeiting one of his prime years... you never get that back

Oh... his fab agent didn't explain any of this to him... surprise.. surprise...

I know it is very early in the season, but we had a tough schedule coming out the gate, and we are in first place in the central which was supposed to be the most difficult division in the NBA...

That is pretty good stuff, for starting the season without Sasha, and not having much of a bench...

I have quite a bit of hope for this season, and while some don't seem to like Ferry, he knows what the hell he is doing IMO...Building a winner, and he realizes that you just can't throw money around if you want to build a winner...

Drew Gooden congratulates Sasha Pavlovic after Pavlovic made a three-pointer in the fourth quarter. Gooden scored a season-high 24 points.

CLEVELAND -- There's at least one other Big 3 in the NBA, and this trio isn't gracing any magazine covers.
LeBron James scored 38 points, Drew Gooden added a season-high 24 and Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 15 as Cleveland's threesome outplayed Boston's heralded triumvirate in a 109-104 win in overtime last night.
James scored 11 points in OT as the defending Eastern Conference champions dropped the Celtics to 11-2 with one of their best all-around performances of the early season.

Rob Oller commentary: James has to be envious of what Celtics have done

Wednesday, November 28, 2007 3:16 AM
By Rob Oller

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
oller28.IMG_11-28-07_C1_Q98JVSQ.jpg

CLEVELAND -- From his hops to his elevated hoops IQ, LeBron James is engineered for basketball. But even the marvel of manufacturing needs more parts to make the Cavs complete.
He won't say it, not with the season under way, but he knows it. Who doesn't?
James' face reflected green last night, not from the Boston Celtics jerseys surrounding him, but from envy. While the Cavs stood pat during the offseason, choosing to attempt a repeat run to the NBA Finals with James and a box full of workable but not exceptional complementary pieces, the Celtics wheeled and dealed their way into becoming more than simply a playoff contender. By trading for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, the Celtics moved front and center in the Eastern Conference and created a "Cleveland who?" atmosphere around the league.

truth. tough opener against the Mavs with an early westcoast swing, all while having several guys out with injury, and Pavs trying to get back into the flow of the game. however, as hot as cleveland is right now, they are still only 3 games over .500.

They are 5-1 since Hughes went down. Coincidence?

Phoenix is one of a couple locations that Andy could end up and be at least as successful as he was in Cleveland. I would take that deal in a second.

What the hell does LeBron have to be envious about? It's a long season. Unless the Celts win the championship, he'll have nothing to be envious of, regarding the C's.

Last night the only Celtic to outplay his Cav counterpart was Ray Allen. Last I heard the Cavs have the second highest scoring "big 3" in the NBA with Gibson and Pavlovic doing more that Rondo and Perkins as the other two. If they keep playing like they have over the past 3-4 games and a few bench guys step up they will be better than they were last year. Just don't let Hughes screw it up.
