Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

what's up with LeBron not taking the ball to the hoop? It seems like such an obvious answer to ou offensive woes but he rarely ever just takes a game over by trying to get to the hoop

The few times he did it tonight he got fouled, made some nice assists, made some good passes that resulted in free-throws for others, or made an easy basket

He's too good to be another guy on the perimeter making an extra pass....he looks like a man amongst boys when he decides to take it to the hoop hard

I just don't understand the thinking behind it...lack of confidence in his free-throw shooting maybe?

Rumor was that he spent the whole summer working on his shooting. Hopefully this first game was a fluke for him.

CLEVELAND -- They raised a championship banner, for the franchise's first Eastern Conference title. Then LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers collapsed.
Jason Terry made six three-pointers and scored 24 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 15 points and the Dallas Mavericks, whose NBA title pursuit last season ended with a stunning first-round exit against Golden State, opened 2007-08 with an impressive 92-74 victory over the Cavaliers last night.

Michael Arace commentary: Lay of land in East has changed for Cavs

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CLEVELAND -- A banner marking the Cavaliers' Eastern Conference championship was unfurled from the rafters last night in Quicken Loans Arena. A capacity crowd reveled in the brief ceremony before the opener. It sounded like a group of carrier jets roared through the building.
Then, the Dallas Mavericks roared through the building. The Mavs won 92-74 and it wasn't even that close.
"As the game wore on, our execution got worse and our defense got worse," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. "We're not playing with any firepower."

We should offer to pay half of Hughes' contract if any team will just take him off of our hands.

I think they'll have to dangle a bigger carrot than that to get a biter. He's never been a good shooter, but since he arrived in Cleveland, his shooting has been worse than bad.

Why Gibson only shoots 6 times is beyond me. He needs to throw up at least 12-15 shots a game, and those extra shots better come from Hughes' share.

Nice game by Z.

larry hughes = garbage. really. the wrong hughes brother died.

donyell marshall - cut his hair, and got slower. nothing else to be said.

gooden - nice D against Dirk, shaky offensively, but at least he brought it.

z - really becoming a defensive liability. just too slow. however, the only offense for this team tonight.

LBJ - i guess we'll have to wait until April for him to show up again.

gibson - needs more minutes, and needs to take more shots.

ira newble - jump into lake erie.

damon jones - follow newble.

Damon actually shot pretty well last night after his first brick. He started to put some arch on his shots and they looked a lot better. If you could somehow give Hughes Jones' shooting touch you would have a player almost worthy of Hughes' contract. Damon is too slow to play D or PG so all he is good for is a sub to put in and hope he is hot from behind the line.

NBA notebook: Cavs decline contract option on 2006 top pick

Friday, November 2, 2007 3:32 AM

Associated Press

Shannon Brown missed all five shots, had two turnovers and didn't score in six minutes of Cleveland's 92-74 season-opening loss to Dallas on Wednesday night.
After the game, he got swatted -- by the Cavaliers.
The club decided not to pick up their contract option for 2008-09 on Brown, a 2006 first-round draft pick from Michigan State whose rookie season was slowed by injuries. The Cavs had until midnight to exercise the guard's $1.1 million salary for next season.

True. The spree that gave Snow and Newble that big money is also strangling.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that Ferry can find someone to take Hughes.

The Shannon Brown choice is not a big suprise. Sure, he can jump but his shooting has sucked everytime I've watched him.

The thing this team needs is a good draft pick to develop a good player. Stop trading away first rounders for a bucket of shit.
