Cavs 06-07 season thread

He has played much better than earlier in the season after his ankle injury. He has went back more to the old Larry of taking the ball to the hoop.

While his fg% isnt the greatest I would be willing to bet that it has improved quite a bit. Also he is shooting 38% from behind the arc which is a pretty good percentage. Doesnt have near as many to's as LBJ. He dishes out 3 assists/game.

Not sure who else you would like to put in his spot. I think the whole team has been pathetic from the free throw line and really hope for an improvement in the second half.

If and that is a big if Larry stays healthy he is going to do more to help this team that he will do to hurt it...

his fg% right now is lower than it was at the end of last season. That was with his retard finger. his ft% is 7% lower, which is pathetic. as far as to's, hughes has a 3.0-2.1 assist to TO ratio. LBJ's is 5.9-3.2, so that argument is out the window.

and, by month, hughes fg% goes as follows:
Nov - 43%
Dec - 41%
Jan - 37%
Feb - 42% (with the utah game skewing that number)

so, hughes has had one good game in the past month. he's otherwise totally worthless.

His struggles were obvious when he came back from that injury this year as he was not attacking the rim, which caused him to shoot more jumpers than he should take.

As far as the to's I was just merely pointing out that Hughes doesnt have as many a game as James...

As far as free throw percentage everyone on the team is down and I am just hoping they get their act together in the second half. Both James and Hughes are 7% below their career marks...

For your opinion of him being pretty worthless who would you play in place of him?

I just have to join the Hughes debate. In this case if we trade Hughes (and AV) we get Bibby. Bibby instantly becomes the #2 option and is a straight up an upgrade over Hughes in that case. Then you open up a starting spot for Sasha. But it also opens up the lineups. You can play Bibby and Gibson at the same time giving us a very quick backcourt to go along with Lebron to run with. It also frees up minutes with Shannon Brown if he is healthy and can get back into the flow of the team and be able to contribute.

The issue here is trading AV with the question of when will Z come back. From what I have heard about why Z is out you have to question what will we get when he comes back. His mindset might be shot and we really might not know what kind of player he will be.

But if Z comes back with a clear mind I do not mind playing Pollard more minutes as he can bring energy and a toughness this team needs.

OK Gibby could slide to the 2g, but then you have Snow as the PG unless we pick up Bibby and therefore I think that Snow will be gone, b/c I don't see a team trading a pg and not getting one in return.

Either way you have both pgs on the floor at the same time and neither of them getting a rest. Not an ideal situation.

Yes Sasha can steal some minutes as the 2g, but once again he is the main backup for LBJ, so he isnt going to get big minutes for at the 2g and also fill in for LBJ.

Also neither Sasha or Gibby brings that experience that Hughes will bring down the stretch.

Yes Bibby is an upgrade over Hughes in terms of shooting the ball, but not as much as getting to the hole. If you move Gibby over to the 2 then you have 2 guys that are not as much of your penetraters like Hughes is. Sasha can play that role, but he does more of that when LBJ is on the bench and he is the creator.

Either way I think you guys are playing Hughes role off way too much. Yeah he has struggled, and yes he does get injured alot, but when he is playing well he is a good player alongside LBJ and if we could pull off Bibby a perimeter of Bibby, Hughes, LBJ brings great playoff experience and some very strong defense. Then bring young guys in like Sasha, Gibby and we are talking...

Also we don't know if Gibby will hold up all season as he is just a rookie and same with Sasha as he has never played this many minutes in his career...

you have to look beyond this season as well. hughes will kill cleveland's cap over the next 5 years. bibby has 1-2 years left on a lesser deal.

considering he plays "well" once every 10 games or so, I'll take the risk of letting him go.

I realize that deal was a huge deal, but at this point we can afford to let Bibby go in 1-2 years b/c we have a capable backup.

We don't have one yet for Hughes and if you consider Sasha then you just kill our depth which is one of our strong suits.

I am not fully against getting rid of Hughes, but we would need to get someone in return at the 2g, and then we would really need Sasha to step up and continue to play like he has, and not resort to his oldself in anyway, or pts could be tough to come by. We have seen the last 2 season what has happened when Hughes went down and we struggled compared to with him in the lineup. I guess you can make of that what you want to.

And I think Hughes does more for this team than play a good game once every 10 games...

Cavs Target Point Guards
Feb 21 - The Cavs were trying to pull off a deal before the trade deadline at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Three possible targets are Charlotte's Brevin Knight, San Antonio's Beno Udrih and Orlando's Travis Diener.

Sources say nothing is imminent right now, and nothing might happen by the deadline.

Sheridan:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been trying to get in the mix on Kidd, too, and apparently are willing to discuss everyone on the roster outside of LeBron James. A package of Larry Hughes and Anderson Varejao would be something the Nets would have to consider, although the consensus in front offices around the league is that Hughes would only be worth taking a chance on if his contract was half as big as it actually is.

Kidd is warm to the idea of playing in Los Angeles alongside Kobe Bryant, but he's not enamored of the idea of playing alongside LeBron James ... even though the argument could be made, due to the tougher competition in the Western Conference, that the Cavs with Kidd would have a better chance of reaching the NBA Finals than the Lakers would with Kidd.

I just got wind that a deal for Mike Bibby could be close to happening...

So what would the deal be?

That seems to be the question of the day. But let us assume Hughes is part of it. CB40 asks then who fills Hughes shoes at 2 guard. That is a legitimate question. Could Sasha play there? Yep, would it be ideal? Not really but it would work. Could Gibson play there some, and some is the key there, and yes he can. But not ideal. In the long term this could be where Shannon Brown plays in the future if he develops. So we could get a short term answer.

But the key is the rumors have been that both Sacremento and Cleveland have been looking for a 3rd team. Could this 3rd team bring the answer CB40 seeks? Actually Hughes makes more than Bibby and throw in AV or Drew and we can get something more than just Bibby coming back. So that extra salary could come back with a serviceable starting SG. And he might come from the mysterious 3rd team. Could we land the 2007 version of Flip Murray?

Gotta love trading deadlines.
