Cavs 06-07 season thread

David Aldridge said about 10 minutes ago that the Cavs are trying very hard to trade for Bibby. He said he was talking with a reliable source seconds before the pregame show started on TNT.

Aldridge said Gooden is the main player in the talks but the Kings want Varejao. Now there is a third team involved that he wouldn't announce.

I don't want us to give up Wild Thing. Gooden would be ok with me, but not Wild Thing...

Also if we are able to obtain Bibby and not lose anyone that plays big minutes besides Gooden I think that puts us in the drivers seat in the East...

Im having a brain fart....

How would Goodens minutes be distributed if he was traded away?

Aldridge said the deal hasn't been made because we wouldn't give up AV.

I can't figure out who the third team is.

If there would not be a third team then Snow and Gooden for Bibby would work contract wise. Doubt that will happen.

Would also be nice to throw in a guy like Newble, just to get rid of him...

As for Gooden's minutes, they would be distributed between Wild Thing, Donyell, and Pollard...

I also would be suprised if we were trading Drew and say Snow that we at least don't get some type of PF back in return. Not a game changer, but just a guy that would be able to steal some minutes...

Put me in the camp that doesn't want to see Varejao traded.

I appreciated the fact that Ferry is making a strong push for this season. However, this team is too young and has too much potential for the coming years to put all of the chips down on this season.

Right now, but especially with a trade, the Cavs would be a strong contender to win the weak Eastern Conference, and of course, if you can do that, technically anything can happen in a seven-game Finals series. Realistically though, nothing the Cavs can do in a trade will make them stand a better chance against whoever emerges out of the West, should the Cavs make it that far.

I agree with everything other than the last comment. If we were to pull in Bibby that would make us that much stronger at the point and have Boobie coming off the bench. We can run all game, don't have to worry about Snow and Bibby is a great defender and shooter and great at the ft line.

We would have a great young core with some vetrans to lead the way...

Varejeo better not be traded. As much as I'd love to have Bibby, I'm not trading AV for him.

Also, I can't see any way that Sacramento would take Snow in any deal. If he had an expiring contract, then maybe, but he doesn't.

It's got to be Gooden or others but not AV. Maybe they can throw in that trade exception that they have.

if cleveland can dump hughes in the process, they will deal AV.

If you do that you get rid of 2 of your top 5 players and that is not a smart thing to do.

While some dislike Hughes b/c of his contract, injuries, and sometimes bad shots, he is a very good defender and he has the ability to be a number 2 scorer. Put a guy like Bibby to go with Hughes and LBJ and we are talking 3 very athletic perimeter players, that can all defend shoot fairly decent and penetrate...

The only reason Sac town would take Snow is so that they have an adequate PG, if they trade Bibby I am not sure what they have waiting behind him in the wings.

Also Bibby has a nice size contract so we are going to have to match the money for the trade to work...

hughes is not a #2 scorer at all. He was a 3rd option in washington, and playing for a contract. that's why he had one good season. his defense is really overrated IMO, he guesses a lot and jumps passing lanes, which inflates his steals numbers. Bibby's contract is over in 2 years, versus the 5 for hughes. hughes is doing more harm than good.

I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree...

He did a great job last year in the playoffs against Rip...

I can agree that I don't like a lot of his shots and he does get injured a lot, but lately he has gotten back to his old self and he had that huge game against Utah.

Not many guys that arent #2 scorers put up 30 pts in a game....

and very few viable #2 scorers follow up that game with a 5-18 fg, 3-10 ft, 5 to game. he's had one good game in the last 3 weeks. that does nothing to change the fact that he's a waste of money. his fg% is horrid, his ft% is pathetic. he rarely drives to the basket anymore. he turns the ball over far too much. and his praised defense is nothing more than passing lane gambles that leaves his teammates hanging out to dry more often than not.

He has played much better than earlier in the season after his ankle injury. He has went back more to the old Larry of taking the ball to the hoop.

While his fg% isnt the greatest I would be willing to bet that it has improved quite a bit. Also he is shooting 38% from behind the arc which is a pretty good percentage. Doesnt have near as many to's as LBJ. He dishes out 3 assists/game.

Not sure who else you would like to put in his spot. I think the whole team has been pathetic from the free throw line and really hope for an improvement in the second half.

If and that is a big if Larry stays healthy he is going to do more to help this team that he will do to hurt it...
