Cavs 06-07 season thread

well, unless mike brown tells his players to shoot 68% from the ft line, i don't know if you can make that assumption. cleveland is dead last, by a wide margin. if they were simply 20th out of 30, which is still very poor, they would be in the top half of the league in scoring running this same offense.

cleveland is also in the bottom 4 in fg%, thanks largely in part to larry hughes.

I know all of this as I have posted it numerous times, but something just isnt right, IMO when you have ups and downs like this you have to question what is going on, and while we have been sucking shooting the ball, I think alot of the that has to do with standing on offense, slowing the game down and just not playing to our stregths which has a lot to do with the coach.

I know that talent can make a coach look good, but a good coach can also make a team come together and play above their level...

I am not saying that it would be a great decision, and I will ususally be the first to defend coaches as I was defending the Silas when they fired him, but I just don't feel like Brown is doing a good job of keeping players happy and I don't think that the players are buying what he is trying to sell them...

you know im not a cavs fan. youre a smart guy, but you just came to this conclusion?

ive been on that band wagon for over a year...

Well honestly he did almost lead us to the Eastern conference finals last season in his first year, and he seemed to improve as much as a coach as the team did last year...

I do believe that there are better guys for the job, but just not sure if it is smart to do it mid season...

BTW he is a good defensive coach, but has no offense brain cell in his body besides give it to LBJ and stand around and walk the ball up the court...

what do you guys who watch him think is it the rick "wild thing" vaughn? or is it just that teams have made the adjustments from making lebron beating them to not allowing lebron to beat them. essentially has he become a giant money driven pussy, or has coaching evloved towards him in that they have actually begun to gameplan for lebron?

you guys know ive only watched maybe a dozen nba games 8 or so being cavs games, from what ive seen its been option 2, with option 1 creeping into the picture.

No...it's the fact he still has the ability to beat anyone in the league to the basket but chooses to shoot jumpshots.

I agree with this, but I will also add that I think he is way to passive and seems to be more willing to let another take a shot rather than him getting to the hoop.

I also don't like the offesnive scheme if there is one, but I do believe that it is pathetic that other teams can send 2 guys at LBJ and we can't beat that defense...

Seems simple to me as someone cuts to the hoop LBJ passes to him and as the other guy steps to guard him another guy slips to the hole for a layup. Or maybe I am just crazy, but that is simple principles of what you do when getting double teamed...

Cavs begin to wonder about team philosophy

Players want up-tempo game because grind-it-out half-court offense isn't working

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Losing can make athletes, even highly paid professionals, start to question things. For the Cavaliers, a spate of eight losses in 12 games at midseason has some questioning their identity.
Frustrated with repeated offensive letdowns throughout the season, several Cavs are now openly suggesting the team needs a shakeup in philosophy. Team leaders believe that the grind-it-out half-court offense isn't working and measures need to be taken to play a more up-tempo, higher-scoring game.

James wants Cavs to go to the alleys

Tuesday, February 06, 2007 Branson Wright

Plain Dealer Reporter
LeBron James wants to have some fun again. He craves an offense that encourages alley-oop passes for dunks and quick passes that lead to easy, fast-break buckets.
He wants no part of a predictable offensive pattern that calls for dribble, pass, pass, pass and shoot with the shot clock about to expire. James also is tired of holding the ball while his teammates stand like statues.
Bring on the run-and-fun basketball to get the Cavaliers out of their offensive funk.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CLEVELAND ? Former Cavaliers guard Austin Carr described freethrow shooting as one of the most basic yet volatile aspects of basketball. "It?s 90-to-10 physical until that 10 percent gets in your head," said Carr, now a broadcaster for the team. "Once that 10 percent gets in your head, then the numbers switch."

If Lebron wants to get out and run then he is going to have start being the one man fast break and get it going. I don't know if Mike Brown is holding him back from doing this but Lebron is going to have to take it on his shoulders and do it himself.

I agree, and I also think he needs to get out of his habit where he catches the ball and waits about 5 seconds to make his move...I think he would be much better with catching it and going, and I also think they need to get away from so many pick n' rolls as everytime they just bring two guys out on LBJ and he is either forced to pass it away or dribble out of the double team and reset.

I would like to see a 1-4 set much like the Heat do with Wade and let him work, b/c if he has the whole end he can got to either side instead of having him on the wing where they play the little double team zone teams always play where he has to beat 2 guys to get to the rack...

As I have said Mike Brown does not have an offensive mind...
