Cavs 06-07 season thread

The way they are playing right now Gibson and Pavlovic are the best 2 players on the team. Pav is the only guy who is taking the ball to the hoop on a regular basis. I would say that Lebron needs to take the ball to the hoop like Wade and Arenas do, but he is big enough that he would probably run people over and get charges.
How crazy is it that somebody would say that? I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with you (honestly Gibby hasn't seen enough minutes), or that it's that outlandished, but LeBron has seemed very "immortal" this year. Definately not living up to expectations. Hype is a very double edged sword. Like CBF40 said earlier, it seems to be some kind of mental issue with LBJ this year...he's just not the same player right now that he was 8 months ago. This team needs a good kick in the ass. I'm still holding out hope for some kind of move before the deadline. Hell, it's not like you'd be fucking with chemistry, because they really don't have any right now. The way they swing from game to game is unbelievable. Maybe some new blood would kick them into overdrive. The current squad certainly isn't going anywhere very fast.

this is LBJ's quote from last week:

"There are still a lot of ballgames to play," he said. "We're still right where we want to be. It's all about getting to the playoffs. Once you get to the playoffs it doesn't matter if you're a No. 1 seed or eighth seed, it's best out of seven.

This is a summation of the piss-poor attitude that this team has and why they play like shit as often as they do.

I agree and it is sickening that they fell that way...

This is where guys like Donyell, DJ, Snow, Wesley, Z need to show leadership and kick these guys in the ass...

plenty of teams have talent. its coaching if you ask me. go and look up year by year and coaches, or how many coaches repeat... its remarkable. seriously if you can look at the year by year list of nba champs by coach and cant say "wow coaching is a major factor if not the main factor" you and i will never be able to agree on anything...

Sure, coaching is a factor, but clearly not the main factor. The coaches that won more than 1, all had multiple superstars, except the Larry Brown Pistons. THAT was a great coaching job, just ask Flip Saunders.

Shaq won in LA and Miami. It was Shaq that won those championships, not Phil Jackson or Pat Riley.

I guess we'll never agree because while coaching is a factor, top shelf talent is and almost always be the main factor. I just think that with only 5 players on the court, basketball is more of a 'player' game than a team game.

Phil Jackson won't win another championship anytime soon, untill he gets another player to complement Kobe. Kobe's the best in the league right now, but he thought he was the reason they won. He wasn't, him and Shaq were.

a couple of things

what do i say about inconsistency?

what is my belief on coaching?

on lebron
ive always really questioned him. how many times do you seem him near the hoop on a dunk, all the time. how many times did you watch jordan, bird the other all time greats and think wow, he was the best player on the floor, he was also the hardest working player on the floor. id say half the time you could say those guys went all out, sure i believe it hurt them in the long run and caused shorter careers than a more conservative style could have lead to but, in the end greatness in pro sports is defined by one thing. championships. those great players would leave it all out and id say half the time youd walk away from the game or turn of your set and say, "wow no one wanted it more than them" now i say maybe you can say this about the kids today, but i think you see some of that in dwade and a few others.

my other beef with lbj is he doesnt have it. when jordan and bird wanted it you could see it, fear it and it crippled people. the same way tiger woods today when hes climbing the leader board strikes fear in everyone else. you dont see that out of lebron down the stretch of EVERY game, night in night out. that sperates great players to all time players. i just dont see it in him, i didnt in hs, i havent in the nba. hes a young young kid, maybe it will appear magically, but i doubt it. sure hes great for the nba, but its amazing how some of you ripe on oj mayo for relishing in being the next one, when i see lebron doing the same thing as the chosen one.

time will tell, but i go back to how many coaches have one title over the last 20 years, the last 40 years, how many of those guys repeat...

and inconsistency is the trademark of medocrity...

I agree and I think we are skating into the initial stages of a "backlash", for lack of a better word, on LeBron. Like I said earlier, hype is a double edged sword. It's great because it brings increased visibility; it's bad because it brings heightened expectations. LBJ brought us all to a fevered pitch last may when he took the "mighty" Pistons to the brink. After that we naturally expected him, and the Cavs to continue to ascend. Right now it's not happening. This will be a true test of his character. When questions are thrown his way, how will he react? This is the man that the Cavalier franchise is staking their 36 year history on (make no mistake, they are)...and that's a lot of pressure for a young man in a championship-starved city. I hope he can step up, because the goddamn Browns ain't going anywhere quick, and I'm not so sure the Tribe is either.

The thing is I think that the team will play better come playoff time and late in the season...

If you remember last year there was this same type of talk about LBJ how he hadnt hit a game winner and yadda yadda yadda and then he went on to hit a couple during the season and had 2 in the Wizards series...

It is just frustrating when you watch a game and you feel like your team isnt giving all they have...But I guess that is just the NBA and the nature of the beast, unless you are dealing with the select few like DWade, Arenas, and guys like that...

Cavs leash Bobcats in rout

`Businesslike' victory marks encouraging start to five-game homestand

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - If the Cavaliers were able to consistently handle their affairs with the swiftness and efficiency they displayed Friday night, life would contain significantly less grief for them.
Hosting a lesser but usually feisty opponent, the Charlotte Bobcats, the Cavs quietly and without much exertion used their advantages to methodically squash the visitors 101-81.

Cavaliers game day

McInnis playing again and happy with Bobcats

LeBron won't be suspended for flagrant foul; he's working on free throws

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Jeff McInnis is home, now he's hoping he's found a home.
The mercurial point guard, whose star with the Cavaliers burned bright before burning out two years ago, is back in the NBA and with his hometown team. His ride since leaving Cleveland has been bumpy, not unlike his tenure with the Cavs, but so far his latest stop has been harmonious.

Snow handling demotion with his usual class
Sunday, February 4, 2007

Cavaliers point guard Eric Snow never wanted to lose his starting role. The day Head Coach Mike Brown chose to replace him with rookie Daniel Gibson, the former McKinley High School star was disappointed. In the aftermath of the decision, though, Snow remembered what a lot of coaches probably tell their players: The name on the front of the uniform is a lot more important than the name on the back.

Today is a big one...

Hopefully we show up play well and close the game out...

Today would be a great time for LBJ to go over 40 for the first time all year and to get a triple double and just start to get back to his old self...

I certainly hope so, but the way the season is going I'm less than optimistic.
