Capital One Bowl: Michigan 41, Florida 35 (final)

so did LSU, Auburn, Georgia.

Yeah, well Kentucky and Arkansas beat LSU, so does that make them superior teams to the Tigers?

Arkansas just got bitch-slapped by Missouri today. Is Missouri that much better than LSU?

Oh wait, they didn't beat LSU in regulation, so it doesn't count... :roll1:

Amazing how all this article was posted up on ESPN.

Quote:
Michigan broke through the Gators' line and pounded Tebow more than once, a painful but clear message from a Big Ten conference that most have completely dismissed in favor of the SEC. Surely even Buckeyes fans grinned a little as Midwest brawn pounded Southeast brains.

Classic victory
My favorite parts...What scUM was using wasn't exactly a 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust offense. It was a new offense, and pretty well executed as well, I may add.Now this is downright condescending... Wow. :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

Midwest brawn pounded Southeast brains? Meyer and Saban have both won the NC and are both yankees. And Meyer is the coach that they are calling a Southeast brain in this article.

Slight change of subject off the SEC stuff so I can rave a bit, now that I'm down from the high of the Michigan game and getting over my anger at the Gator Bowl happenings......

Normally I don't buy the idea that the results of a bowl game carry over into next season and the team uses it as a springboard. Coaches do a pretty good job of pounding it out of their system in spring practice and in fall practice by demanding they look to the task at hand and not dwell on the past. Certainly, Florida will have this behind them by tomorrow. They've got big things on the horizon. In Michigan's case I think things are different. This whole year was a mess. 2005 was a crummy season too, but for some reason it didn't feel as crummy as this one. Started really by getting blown out of the Rose Bowl on New Year's, then App State and Oregon put the whole program into a malaise. Winning felt more like escaping rather than beating teams because we were supposed to. Definitely finished the regular season on a down note, and to top it off we "earned" a matchup with the nation's hottest quarterback that looked absolutely terrible for us on paper. Everyone who thought Michigan would pull it off, raise your hand. OK, now put your hand down because you're a lying SOB. I didn't think they could do it and neither did anyone. We were all set to send off a terrific bunch of seniors with a big goose egg to show for their efforts in the eight games that they care most about, and we were going to send off our beloved and respected coach in the worst possible way. The big bad Heisman winner and his cohort of speedy receivers was going to Gator-chomp Michigan right off the national stage to irrelevancy, joining Alabama in a parade of Independence Bowls. That about sums up the state of mind of Wolverine Nation, right there. Next year, who knows what'll happen. None of the players know what their role is going to be. But that's a hell of a lot better than not knowing what their role is going to be, and riding a big fat losing streak to boot. This way, our players' shoulders are carrying their coach, as they should be, instead of drooping under the weight of losing. Lloyd Carr can take his place alongside Bo Schembechler and Fielding Yost and nobody will deny him that, because he left us with the sweet taste of victory one last time.

Sorry, I know it's a Buckeye board and what goes on in Ann Arbor doesn't much concern you except once every other year. But you know....Michigan fans took one look at the result this November, realized you guys have no seniors, took another look at the bowl game matchup, and pretty much wondered if 2009 was looking good yet. I figure you oughta know this too - next year looks much, much sunnier, and it's a rivalry again.
blah...blah...blah

Fuck Michigan! :wink2::biggrin:

Really, congrats on the big bowl win, Buckeye fans are sincerely happy for Michigan this time (won't last too long :p). It was a huge one for the school and the BigTen. Looking forward to watching the turnaround and will gladly enjoy any rough spots along the way, especially at the hands of the Buckeyes.

Heh....I know....the honeymoon of happy-time good feelings is pretty much over by tomorrow. You guys have other fish to fry. (Which is why I posted that now and didn't wait til Jan. 9 :wink2: )

It's true though. I was absolutely dreading next November 22. I don't know if the players were, but it would have been a disaster of a self-fulfilling prophecy if they were. Now nobody is - and that's a good thing all around. In a sense, Michigan winning this game was a huge boost to The Rivalry. What fun is it if you not only beat your opponent every damn year, but they can't beat anyone else either?

I think ESPN and a some fans in the North still consider UF a Top SEC Team. As for as SEC fans we do not. UF is a good team but not a juggarnaut of the past. UF does not strike fear in SEC teams like they used too. Im a Tiger fan and I feel LSU can beat UF every time they match up. So does Auburn, Georgia, Tenn.
It was still a good win for Mich. today. It was a fun game to watch. Geaux Tigers.
And the SEC excuse machine revs up

Emotional post game speech... I am happy for Lloyd and Michigan for their accomplishment(s). As much as it pains me to say it... "Go Blue" today. I am very proud of our conference and am happy Lloyd finished ahead.

Buckeye true and true, you have to be a proud Big Ten member today.

Ya know, I didn't think it would happen, but I knew it COULD happen. I listened to how Michigan didn't stand a chance, and how Tebow was the greatest thing since sliced bread, best college football ever and saw all the videos of how they were using all this technology to make him better and I just knew that Michigan players and staff would be seeing and hearing the same things. It's just the way competative people work, when you're told you are going to fail you find a way to succeed. Congrats to Michigan, they made the Big10 proud, they made their coach proud, they made their university proud. They found a way to stop "Super Tebow" and make him uncomfortable throughout the game. If you take the turnovers away, you suddenly have a game that isn't even close. The only down thing for Michigan is that Hart seems to be an epic failure in piss-yellow and blue, but they won in spite of him. Grats UM, we'll see you next year.

I had to swing by and say congratulations to Coach Carr and his program today. I am genuinely happy for the man, and also found myself rooting for a hated team in ugly ass uniforms today. That doesn't happen often, and now it won't have to again for a very long, long time. Beating Florida like that today was very sweet indeed, and it could have been 55-35, but you knew mouthy mike would find a way to fuck something up. I'm pretty sure he was the only one laughing on that sideline on his (was it the 1st or 2nd?) fumble inside the 5. (I know it was the 1st :wink2:)

Still, thank you Michigan for winning today. And you can bet your ass that's the last time you see those words coming from me.

It was the perfect game, scUM beat an SEC team for Carr's retirement AND they did it despite mike hart sucking it up. The win wouldn't have been easy for me to enjoy if I knew it was due to Hart carrying the team on his back.
