Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

There's no way that the NCAA lets Cam and Cecil get away with this. If they do, it just opens the floodgates for any parent to go out and solicit payment for their kids services (and not just from schools but from agents, car dealers, boosters etc.) with no threat of sanctions against the kid so long as kid and pop stick to their story.

I will go out on a limb here and say you are totally correct. That would set a really bad precedent.

WOW, 1/2 a game suspension.

Two non-starters get half a game, and Fairley gets nothing. It's the SEC version of the ol' "NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they're going to put Cleveland State back on probation."

Oh well, we're still waiting to see if Chizik steps forward with "further punishment." If he did and Auburn lost, it wouldn't be toilet paper that the 'necks would be hanging at Toomer's Corner.

The synopsis on the SEC Rant board at TigerDroppings is almost too outlandish to be true, but I also am inclined to believe that 'where there is smoke, there is fire.'

The biggest problem I have with this whole thing is that it just doesn't make sense to have an elaborate pay-for-play scheme to pay for one kid. I don't care how good you think the QB might someday be, buying one QB doesn't guarantee you anything since it's about 50/50 he winds up being a bust.

So the Newton clan (allegedly) received $160-$250K.

... the Fairley's were happy with room and board? No way.

If the TigerDroppings black-ops-tin-foil-hat stuff is even remotely in the ballpark of the truth, then I have to believe the reason the Auburn BoT decided, 'screw it, we're playing Cam' was because they know half the starters are ineligible, because this goes way beyond the Newtons.

Agents giving 'loans' to players for the promise of future representation is one thing; boosters and local entrepreneurs trying to get their hooks into kids with a $100 handshake or a loaner car is another. But when you get into the realm of shopping kids to the highest bidder, that requires the participation of multiple schools, multiple boosters, and multiple players.

You don't tell a school it'll cost $180K for your kid unless you've already got a bid of $170K elsewhere. And you don't pay $180K for the services of a kid and then put him on the field with a bunch of scrubs.

Dunno Dryden, but I do not think that is necessarily true. The dad could just be picking a number he thinks passed the Goldilocks test - not too small for him and not too big for the program. Whether he has any idea what the "market price" is would depend on the validity of, and his knowledge of, an offer at another institution.

Right, and I believe the Tigerdroppings thread outlines that it does indeed go beyond Newton - way beyond Newton.

PART FOUR (IV) - THE 2010 CLASS, W&L, TROOPER TAYLOR, AND CAMGATE

Coach Chiz was hired December 13th, 2008. Auburn?s Class consisted of 28 players being signed, ranked 25th in the Country (LSU #1, Bama #2, Fla. #5, UGA #6, USCe #12, UTenn, #15, ARKY. #20, Ole Miss #22, Miss. St. #23). AU?s top rated player that year was DeAngelo Benton, a highly sought after, but academically troubling player from La. that had originally committed to LSU. Production thus far in his career is just 7 receptions for only 103 yards.

The 2010 Class, built primarily on the efforts of Trooper Taylor (as per AU Football Media Propaganda), miraculously lands the #1 players from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, as well as the #1 JUCO signee in Cam Newton. Why the turnaround, when their previous season only netted a 7-5 regular season record (3-5 SEC), along with an overtime win against Northwestern on New Years Day.

Enter CamGate, Lowder & Co., and Trooper Taylor.

The Rodgers/Bodn/Mullen/Cecil/SEC/NCAA/FBI Timeline (as per TD poster Ilovebama):

? Before 2009 Egg Bowl, Ken Rodgers talked with Cecil, who said "It's not gonna be free this time."

? Nov 27th, 2009 Ken Rodgers meets Cam and Dan, for the first time.

? Nov 27th, 2009 Ken, Cecil, and two coaches meet at Hilton Garden Inn, where Cecil says "Anywhere between $100,000 and $180,000." coaches respond ?No, no, I don?t want to hear that,?

? Nov 29th, 2009 Ken leaves Bill Bell a voicemail asking if the deal is going to get done

? Bell was contacted by Cecil Newton asking for money

? Bell calls Bond and urges Bond to tell MSU officials.

? Bond calls Byrne

? Dec 14th, 2009 Cam pushes committing back to Dec 22nd, 2009

? Dec 20th, 2009 Cam visits Auburn, Dad was not there

? Cam commits Dec 31st

Trevon Reed is a solid to Strong LSU verbal, until very late in the process when he abruptly changes his mind to Auburn, against the better judgment of his high school coach. Similar waffling is also experienced with Dyer, Coleman, and Others. It has been mentioned there exists a recorded conversation between TTaylor and McGregor discussing the progress in wrapping up this class. To paraphrase, ?? just one more deal to cut and it?s all done. Then there?s a mention of needing $200K to close it out.?

Shit, after (or just before) Terry Bowden got quit, he alluded to PFP being in existance at AU prior to and in the early part of his tenure there.

Bowden, now ABC's college football studio analyst, credits Lowder for his hiring and eventual firing, as well as alleging that Lowder was involved in a deep rooted, pay-for-play scheme in place when Bowden was hired almost a decade ago. (ABC and ESPN are part of The Walt Disney Co.)

Wanting to have a public record in case anything happened to him, Bowden agreed to a lengthy tape-recorded interview with Paul Davis of the Opelika-Auburn News in 2001. In transcripts reviewed by ESPN.com, Bowden said he was so stressed about Lowder during his last year at Auburn that he told Davis, "I'm having my house checked for bugs."

If this ends up being thoroughly investigated, I think AU football is finished. However, I could see the alleged FBI info being 'inadmissible' in an NCAA investigation... My imo, since I'm not a fucking lawyer.

I've never been to Auburn.....is there anything in that town other than the college? If this whole thing ends up being true and they kill not only the football team, but also take away their accreditation, is that going to kill the economy there? Is that something that "they" (whoever "they" are) would let happen?
