From college football news.....

THIS JUST IN ... It's being reported that Cam Newton will be suspended this afternoon by the NCAA. More on this later,

Is there any kind of precedent for this?

I'm drawing a blank...

How it this much different from Dez Bryant, AJ Green, Marcel Dareus, and most of the N Carolina defense this year. It's just that those things were all at the start of the season.

Is it stated why they are suspending Cam. Do they have specific evidence or just reason of suspicion.

It's just leaked reports that the NCAA will be suspending him. If it happens today, the NCAA will have to release a statement regarding why.

Last night it was reported that two Miss St recruiters had conversations with Cam and his father during which they said that Cam went to Auburn due to money.

But the most damning thing I've heard about is the supposed tape recording of Newton's father talking about receiving payments - the story on that was linked to by LightningRod in this thread earlier today (post 263 link). If that recording does exist, he may well be done at Auburn.

I suppose the "regarding why" will anwer my question...

I think I read the original post "pending investigation" very literally and that was the reason for my question... IIRC the Bryant and Green cases were for specific/verified infractions.... I read "pending investigation"-- so, yeah, Guess we'll see what the reason is.

I don't think they would do it without giving the kid and dad a chance to point blank deny the allegations. Smoke/fire.

they've both had a chance to deny, and I haven't heard much denying.

I'm not going to confirm nor deny nothing that has been taking place. I've answered what I need to answer.

That's all I've heard from his father. Sounds more like a statement from an attorney than a denial.

I have been following this all day. This may or may not be a Reggie Bush type of situation where they (Cam and his dad) will dismiss/deny and whatnot, but I have to wonder if this make news at all if Cam sucked as a QB and Auburn was was nowhere near in contention for the MNC.

That said, if Auburn gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar here, they better grab the Vaseline because I feel the NCAA will be bringing the industrial sized mop handle for a quick and thorough probe after they took a black eye for the Bush case taking so damn long.
