There's no way any of this is true, the NCAA already did their investigation! They're usually very thorough.

Emmert's a good man. And thorough.

So this was happening at Auburn and most likely Florida now with Muschamp there. I'm sure none of this goes on at Alabama, LSU, Georgia, etc. Just dismantle the SEC and leave Vandy there as the sole member, it would be delicious. It would never happen, but a guy can dream.

Would it not follow that if a bank can become too big to fail, so could a program or more certainly a conference? CBS, and now ESPN, have put a lot of capital into owning SEC athletics. To see their property brought down by investigations would not sit well with their CEO and Board.

I wonder what USC's punishment cost ABC over the past few years. Certainly had to have a big impact in the LA/SC market area.

I'm sure by morning, ESPN will have undoubtedly discovered and be hot on the trail of some scandal involving the Field Hockey program at Minnesota or Northwestern that will need all of their hard-hitting, investigative resources.

If there were raffles someone is going down hard.

Also, it took a disgruntled former player to bring down SMU. Without a whistle blower on the inside the NCAA is as impotent as some humorous impotent reference.

Without reading through the whole story, it seems like this case may have the necessary disgruntled whistle blower required for something to actually happen. Maybe?

No tattoos so they're safe.

I read the whole story...the majority of the story focuses on the arrest and seeking exoneration from it. But former athletes mention that academic ineligibility went away for the NC and needs were met without even asking for them to be.

If it has legs, the academic integrity issue of itself is enough to bring Auburn to its knees. That is clear lack of institutional control.

You're right. The NCAA won't touch this with a 20 foot Jesus pole. And currently Slive is calling major southern media outlets threatening to blackball them if they go with the story.

He must have ignored Atlanta then, because it's the front page of the sports section. Probably not a major southern media market.
:roll2:

FWIW - AU and the players named (save McNeil and his parents) are deny the quotes and the report.

Having read the article, it is a bit skewed to a pre-determined conclusion. There are quite a few cherry-picked quotes from some players to make it seem like they're confirming McNeil's allegations when they aren't.

I'm not saying these allegations aren't true because they probably are, but Selena Roberts isn't exactly trying to be objective. She has an axe to grind or she's just trying to get her name back out there for a job.

LOL. I am sure they allll deny it. Nothing to see here. SEC keeps their Nat'l Championship steak going. And Mike Slive is the king

I see the southern 'necks mostly have their junior people all over this. Michael Carvell? LMAO. This guy is a glorified recruiting hack.

Someone call me when Tony Barnhart covers it. There is a reason why the bigger name people writing/tweeting about it are East Coast media and not major Southeast media personalities. The 'neck media knows where their SEC bread is buttered. The only major name in SE media covering this at all is Tim Brando and that SEC circle-jerker is giving it about 2 seconds and rolling right on to the next topic.

This is just a general statement and not meant to be directed at you, Woof.

How delicious it would be if the Cam Newton Year of Destiny ended up getting vacated because of everyone else's violations at Auburn. I think Selena Roberts is a sensation-whore (and Wikipedia says she actually graduated from Auburn), but this is the kind of story that takes down programs these days. Still waiting, but just wait, you'll see.

I believe she was the reported that broke the Duke Lacrosse scandal, which didn't end up working out for her so well.
