LOL. I am sure they allll deny it. Nothing to see here. SEC keeps their Nat'l Championship steak going. And Mike Slive is the king

I see the southern 'necks mostly have their junior people all over this. Michael Carvell? LMAO. This guy is a glorified recruiting hack.

Someone call me when Tony Barnhart covers it. There is a reason why the bigger name people writing/tweeting about it are East Coast media and not major Southeast media personalities. The 'neck media knows where their SEC bread is buttered. The only major name in SE media covering this at all is Tim Brando and that SEC circle-jerker is giving it about 2 seconds and rolling right on to the next topic.

This is just a general statement and not meant to be directed at you, Woof.

No offense taken - But I'll point out that it's also Day 2 of the story.
Today, Selena will go through her first round of interviews with the local media/sports talk radio teams. She'll probably be on Feinbaum, and the Atlanta shows in addition to shows in Charlotte, Nashville and New Orleans.

I would think thank your "lack of coverage as a form of cover-up" comment would hold more water if we were 5-7 days into the process. Give the bigger names a chance to dive and and start to research themselves.

So this was happening at Auburn and most likely Florida now with Muschamp there. I'm sure none of this goes on at Alabama, LSU, Georgia, etc.

i have no doubt stuff like this goes on at EVERY major football school in the country.

sure I would love to believe that LSU is squeaky clean and guilty of no wrong-doing.

but i would have to be completely delusional to think there's no chance that some shady shit is going on behind closed doors.

I agree with this.

But I also believe that false allegations are sometimes made. Scratch that. I and every member of this board KNOW that false allegations are sometimes made. How much of this stuff turns out to be true remains to be seen; but it certainly deserves more attention from the NCAA than it is getting right now.

Having said that, I think it's time to revisit a point that is made periodically around here: Namely, that "Lack Of Institutional Control" is sometimes a misnomer. Sometimes the institution itself is very much in control.

To the extent that I understand the rules, hard-core institutional involvement currently falls under the heading of LOIC. It shouldn't. The phrase "Lack Of Institutional Control" implies sins of omission. It implies that you didn't do enough to stop something. What some schools do, and what Auburn may have done here to one extent or another, is something that is much worse than what LOIC implies.

The academic side of this is not surprising. When you have a system that forces kids who are barely literate onto a college campus in order to pursue their dream of playing professionally, you're going to have academic fraud on the part of the university to keep them eligible--and keep up the facade of the student-athlete.

It's not just backwater institutions like Auburn. Look at UNC, where I'm guessing the average football/basketball player enters with an SAT score about 300 points lower than the average student......and that's the average. There are plenty much lower than that.

At some point, no amount of tutoring or "success centers" is going to make up for a lifetime of shitty schools, not caring about school, a plain and simple lack of IQ points or some combination of all three.

To be honest I have a hard time believing Les Miles is passing envelopes of cash across his desk to players. You'll also note that I have said in the past on this board that if someone takes a coaching at Auburn they are either incredibly naive or flat out dirty.

A few bucks being slipped to players here and there?
Sure. I wouldn't even be upset. But 140k payouts, bribing faculty,
severe grade altercation and outright educational fraud....?

Different story. That doesn't just happen everywhere.

Tbh, if I had to play for any of the SEC coaches, Les would probably be the guy. He's just so damn entertaining. I think guys would play for him without the financial lure, but I'm sure to some extent every major program is floating cash to players in some form or another. It seems in recent years no program is exempt, they're coming out of the woodwork these days.

Someone told me that ESPiN is reporting something about Auburn and pot use.

While I didn't read the report from ESPiN (and won't), the playbook from the network never seems to change. Someone else breaks the story, ESPiN tries to make the news their own.

Sandusky story, ESPiN is late, ESPiN reports on Bernie Fine (to try to make their own story).

Selena Roberts reports on the grades and money, ESPiN reports Auburn's pot use.

Dan Patrick is always good on his radio show giving it to ESPiN and the company's practice of "confirming" news rather than crediting others.

I believe the Roberts piece also contained allegations of rampant drug use.

To my surprise, ESPN actually spent almost the entire half-hour of College Football Live talking about the Auburn story yesterday.

Maybe the SEC/ESPiN is willing to throw crappy Auburn under the bus to take the heat off the rest of the dirty conference. You can only sweep so much under the carpet before it starts busting out the sides.

The Bama players cars gotta get pimped out.
