Cam Akers (RB Los Angeles Rams)

Agreed with all of this but since this is Akers thread, a '17 recruit who has a college ready game, let me pose this question: Samuel decides to go pro and Weber has season ending injury. You are looking at a completely unproven Williams and a smallish scat back McCall. McCall looks absolutely legit but having to rely on him up the gut in a sledgehammer game is dicey at best.

For this reason, I stand with my belief that 1 RB in this class is a bit risky unless the staff has solid word on Curtis returning or have seen a lot of promise in Williams. Or hopefully both.

Akers is a game changer. He looks to me like the type you hand the ball off to for the win on a clutch 4th and 2.

If I knew I had one of Okudah/Holmes in the bag and I could only land one more player it's Akers all day. And it's not even close in terms of importance (not talent).

RB is a crucial position. I've said it before but we don't win the '14 championship without Zeke. For all the talk about how important a QB is, we won with a 3rd stringer. That doesn't happen if Zeke went down.

And for sake of argument, our QB depth going forward is stacked. Much more so than RB.

What's the difference between Akers and Williams?

I agree two would have been ideal in the '17 class but they got Dobbins early and chased a couple of big names (Cam Akers, Najee Harris) and struck out. It happens. Remember they had Todd Sibley and let him walk after asking him to greyshirt. It could have been a two back class of Dobbins and Sibley if they were that concerned about depth.

They also could've seriously pursued Morgan Ellison, and stayed put with Dobbins

Hindsight is a Beautiful thing. I always find it funny when fans harp about inexperience and then bring up Zeke as an example. Especially since 2014 was his first year to start. Going into 2014, almost all OSU fans had worry coming into the season after losing one of the most dominant runners in our history(Carlos Hyde's 2013 was a thing of beauty). And Zeke came in and erased all doubt(though it took a few bumpy games at first). There was also worry when Zeks left and Weber became the starter, and he has had a very good season, and sees himself in the CFP as a frosh. That's why I have no worry with any RBs this staff brings in. They reload and the new guy always is special in his own way and still produces. I would have no worry if Weber went down and Williams and McCall had to take over. Urban HSS coached 4 straight 1000+yd rushers with 3 different RBs, and he came in without ever coaching one.
