C LeCharles Bentley (2001 Rimington Award & 2 time Pro Bowler)

Center is likely the least important position on the O-line. Like most of their post-Raven history, it make little sense.

Fair enough. And Faine was one of the "post-Raven history" mistakes that they made, and they got rid of him. But Tibs, just tell me, if you need a new center, why not go for the best out there (when you have enough money), and someone that's liked by the fans?

That makes plenty of sense.

Well, ideally you'd draft a center in the mid rounds and have him start in his 2nd or 3rd year. Or you'd spend a fair amount of money and get an above average center. Every team has limited amount of money to spend. I still there are better uses than spending a lot of it on a center.

No to make you guys feel better. It's likely Bentley wasn't going to make the difference between 5-11 and 7-9, so if he's out for any extended period, it probably still won't effect your overall record. Cheer up!

Ok, let's see.

1. Second-year QB. He's going to need time in the pocket - lots of it. The running game is going to be vital with Edwards out and an aging Jurevicious as the top wideout.

2. He was, sadly so, the best player on the team. Center or not, he quite possibly was going to be this team's only Pro Bowler.

Probably not a good time for a faux attempt to make a cursed fanbase feel better about losing its best player to what appears to be a serious injury.

Not sure you can call a third round pick wasted on someone who hasn't even gone to his first camp yet. I mean in that case what would the pick of winslow be? I mean 3 years and nothing from him yet....that sounds like a wasted pick.

When he's Chris Henry's cellmate in the Hamilton County Jail, then you'll see.

As far as Winslow goes, I couldn't agree more. Wasted pick then and I like it less now. You pick a guy with questionable character, and you can expect them to do questionable things.

But it goes without saying that Bentley is one of the good guys.

BEREA, Ohio -- Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley, one of Cleveland's biggest free-agent signings this winter, injured his left knee during the Browns' first 11-on-11 drill of training camp on Thursday.

Bentley got tangled in a pile of players as he was blocking on a running play for Reuben Droughns.

Bentley screamed, "No," before remaining on his knees as the Browns moved their scrimmage up the field so the 6-foot-2, 309-pounder could be attended to. He stayed on the ground in a seated position for several minutes before Cleveland's medical staff immobilized his left knee and carted him to the locker room.

Bentley covered his face with a towel on the short drive to the field house as Browns players and fans looked on in shock.

"I don't know what happened," quarterback Charlie Frye said. "You just hope it's not too serious. Right now, we're just praying for LeCharles."

Coach Romeo Crennel said Bentley was taken to a hospital for an MRI. Crennel wouldn't speculate on the nature of Bentley's injury.

"I'm going to wait until after the doctors see it," said Crennel, who wasn't sure how Bentley got hurt. "I hate to see anybody go down. Sometimes feet get tangled and guys end up on the ground."

Crennel had his players only in shoulder pads for the two-hour morning workout, hoping that staying out of full pads on Day 2 of camp would help them avoid injuries.

The Browns have been cursed with serious injuries the past few seasons. On Thursday, tight end Kellen Winslow practiced for the first time in two years in pads after missing the past two seasons with leg injuries.

Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowler who was regarded as one of the offseason's premier unrestricted free agents, signed a six-year, $36 million deal in March that included $12.5 million in guaranteed money.

Here's a video of it:

So how long would that put him out for?
I would guess most if not all of the season, most will depend on how long it takes to get in and get the surgery done. A few weeks after the procedure they would be able to start mobility....things I have read said after the surgery complete healing could be done in anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. However the amount of work that it would get to be to 100% it could be as long as 6 months.

if thats the case the Browns would really have to think about what they would do with him. they could move him to the pup list where he has to be until at least week 6. After that point they would have to decide to either put him on the active roster and thus let someone else go while he rehabs....or do you put him on the IR and lose him for the year.

Talk about the stupiest post you could make. The center calls out blocking assignments and makes the adjustments...ever watch Mangold the last two years? By the way, you may have forgotten that of all the offensive linemen, the center is the only one who gives the QB the fucking ball...yeah, the ball exchange isn't important at all. :roll1:

Stick to rectal exams... :slappy:
