Former NFL center LeCharles Bentley, who now trains current and prospective offensive linemen, wrote a scathing Facebook post regarding the agent business and what college players should know.
Most interesting in that Bentley said the mother of a college player who is going into the draft this year asked for $40,000 for herself as an inducement to get her son to sign with an agent. Bentley did not identify the mother.
The question is whether the NFL Players Association will look into the matter. According to a source, the player signed with an agent. If the $40,000 was paid, that could be viewed as an in-ducement to sign, which is a violation of the NFLPA agent regulations.
Aside from that, Bentley warned players in very strong terms about the pratfalls of signing with agents who offer money, even marketing guarantees, and advised players on what qualities they should look for in an agent.
