Barnett out at least a week, MRI upcoming
Starting strong safety C.J. Barnett will miss at least a week and likely more than that with a right knee injury suffered Saturday against Miami, according to team insiders.
The early indication is the injury does not involve the ACL, which could be a season-ending injury, but rather, two other ligaments, the PCL and MCL.
Barnett is going to have an MRI soon, and nothing definitive will be known until those results are analyzed.
For comparison's sake, defensive end Nathan Williams suffered an MCL sprain on Aug. 14 and returned for the Miami game four weeks later.
Barnett, a sophomore, had a good game Saturday in his second career start, making three tackles and breaking up a pass that Williams intercepted. He won the job in fall camp.
