BCast just reported on the ozone forum that CJ Barnett's knee injury is an ACL tear and he is likely done for the year.

Really unfortunate if true... i thought he played a great game yesterday. Very aggressive and showed great instincts breaking on the ball.

If Ohrian Johnson is the guy now at least he has recieved a lot of reps with the #1 defense...

^^^^^^^^I guess we found a new source not to go to for info.

CJ seemed to improve a great deal between games 1 and 2. Looked faster to the ball, and more confident in coverage. He's got a knack for timing his hits when coming up in support. The thing I like most about him is his passion for the game, and the way he interacts with his teammates. He looks to bring a very positive energy to the field. Hope the injury is only a temporary setback. I'm sure he wants to get back on the field ASAP.

Even if he comes back this year he looks a little light in the pants and injury prone. He need to get bigger/stronger.

Gotta disagree....CJ played lights out yesterday. Don't know how you can say he's injury prone. The guy took a direct hit on his unpadded knee with a helmet. That's going to send anyone to the sideline. JMO.

Well if it is a sprain versus surgery to repair a ligament that is not as bad of news as it could have been. Hope he heals well. Very impressed with his play and did notice a slight drop off when he left the field in our secondary.

Leroy is correct. It is an application that he can make later, or even receive strong assurances (high probability) that he'll get one down the road, but until that application is approved later, he only has 2.5 years left.

Isn't this where the ">30% of team's contests played in" rule comes into play?

Homan played in early 2007 but then sat out the rest of the year and got the redshirt right away. Clifford (2007), Freeman (2005) and Lyons (2005) all suffered the same fate.

The NCAA seems lenient when a player is using an injury as the first redshirt. It's when someone has a second season ender or has already redshirted that they're stingy with the sixth year.
