I would really love to see Greg sigh with Cleveland because he is such a great kid. Having said that, I just want him to be able to play the sport that he loves whichever team he chooses to play for.

INDEPENDENCE: The Cavaliers remained silent as the NBA?s trade deadline passed quietly Thursday. It was one of the rare years when the Cavs failed to complete a deal at the deadline, and the first time it has happened since 2009.
?Not much for Cavs to do but not mess up space,? a rival front office executive said in the hours leading up to the deadline.
Now they?ll turn their focus to free-agent center Greg Oden, who could sign a deal within the next week even though he isn?t expected to play until next season. Cavs General Manager Chris Grant confirmed the team?s interest in Oden, and a league source confirmed the team is expected to offer him a two-year deal with a team option for a third year. Then it?s up to Oden and his agent, Mike Conley, to decide if he wants to sign this season or wait until the summer when they can perhaps drive up the bidding since more teams will have cap space.
The Miami Heat, another team in the bidding for Oden, cleared a roster spot by trading Dexter Pittman to the Memphis Grizzlies.
?Obviously we?ve spoken to Greg, we?ve had him in, we?ve done a lot of due diligence with him,? Grant said. ?He?s a great kid, wonderful heart. We?ll see. We?ll still talk to them and see what his position is and what his goals are. Just like any other free agent, if we?re able to make something happen that makes sense for us, we?ll do it. And if not, that?s OK.?

CLEVELAND -- Former NBA center Greg Oden will not decide on his next team until July, sources close to the situation told FOX Sports Ohio.
The No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007 is making a comeback after three microfracture knee surgeries. Oden last played in the NBA in December 2009 with Portland.
Oden?s agent, Mike Conley Sr., has said Oden is 100 percent and could become a future All-Star.
Oden, 25, is currently taking classes at Ohio State -- the school he led to the NCAA title game in 2007, when it lost to Florida. The Trail Blazers drafted the 7-footer one spot ahead of Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant.
Sources told FSO earlier this month that Oden was leaning heavily toward signing with the Cavs. However, no commitment has been reached by other side.
?We?ll see,? Cavs general manager Chris Grant said last week. ?We?ll still talk to them and see what their position is and see what his goals are. Just like any other free agent, if something happens that makes sense, we?ll do it.

Heat, Greg Oden will talk more over summer
Chris Tomasson
March 6, 2013
MIAMI ? The Miami Heat considered center Greg Oden for their final roster spot before last week signing a guy who is 15 years older. But Oden will be back on the Heat?s radar this summer.
Mike Conley Sr., the agent for Oden, said Wednesday he had discussions with Miami president Pat Riley about the spot the Heat had open between Feb. 21 and last Saturday, when they signed 40-year-old Juwan Howard to a 10-day contract. But Conley Sr. said it was decided it's best to wait until the summer before talking further about Oden, the NBA?s top draft choice in 2007 who is trying to make a comeback after not having played in the NBA since December 2009 due to knee injuries.
?The Heat are interested in him, and he?s interested in them,?? Conley Sr. said in a phone interview with FOX Sports Florida. ?In Miami?s situation, it just made sense to wait until after the season.??
Oden, who is continuing to rehab in Columbus, Ohio, where he had played at Ohio State, isn?t ready yet to play this season anyway. Conley Sr. had looked into the possibility of Oden signing with a team for rehab purposes, but he said no team stepped up with an offer.
?I would say if I had to put money on it that he wouldn?t do anything until this summer,?? Conley Sr. said. ?It doesn?t make sense now because teams will have a better idea of where they stand financially in the summer and Greg isn?t able yet to work out with teams. ... If a team stepped up with an offer that made it worthwhile (for Oden to sign later this season), that would be great. But we?ll probably hold off until the summer.??
Among other teams in the mix for Oden, 25, are Cleveland, San Antonio and Charlotte. The agent?s son, Memphis point guard Mike Conley Jr., said Oden has mentioned those and Miami as possibilities.

Greg Oden says he's still interested in signing with Cavs

CLEVELAND: Greg Oden had a pretty good view of the Cavs? game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. Maybe, just maybe, he?ll have an even better seat at the Q next season.
Oden attended the Cavs? game Friday as a guest of Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley Jr., his best friend since childhood ? yet wound up in Cavs owner Dan Gilbert?s baseline seats adjacent the Cavs? bench.
Gilbert wasn?t in attendance Friday, so arena personnel invited Oden to move down from his original seats five rows behind the Cavs? bench. It was a fascinating scene, given the negotiations between the Cavs and Oden?s agent ? who also happens to be Conley?s father.
Oden was showed on the video board twice during the game as fans cheered and said he is still interested in playing for the Cavs despite not signing a contract yet.
?I live in Ohio. It?s home now,? Oden said. ?They have a great organization and I really do think they?re up and coming.?
The Cavs are believed to have offered Oden a two-year deal that would begin this season and include a team option for a third year, but Oden hasn?t signed. Now it?s looking like he won?t sign a deal until this summer, when more teams will have cap space and the demand could increase.
?Obviously the longer it goes, the more it looks like that? he won?t sign until summer, Oden?s agent, Mike Conley Sr. said Friday.
The game against the Grizzlies was Oden?s first Cavs game as a casual fan. He lives in Columbus again and said the organization?s partnership with the Cleveland Clinic will be a factor in his decision.
?With my process, one of the top two things I have to think about is the medical staff and how is it going to help me,? Oden said. ?I want to play and I want to play for some time. Not just come in and see what happens. I want to be able to have a career.?
Asked what his expectations are once he returns to the NBA, Oden paused for a moment.
?I hope I can contribute to a good team,? Oden said. ?I definitely think I?m that type of player, but I have to get on the court.?
