C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

I truly hope he stays, but if he goes to the NBA, I hope he's a Celtic. :p

Greg's decision could possibly be affected by which franchise ends up winning the draft lottery. Greg and his family may view some teams as a good fit and some teams as undesirable.

I've always kind of thought that it was possible that the NBA draft lottery is fixed. They hold the drawing behind closed doors for God's sake. Why? Fishy! It's possible that the powers that be would love to plant the seeds for another Celtic dynasty. The Celtics haven't been anything special for a while now. With Oden they would be on their way.

If anyone thinks the Celtics aren't getting the number one pick this year, you are crazy!

Of course, I could be wrong about the NBA draft lottery being under manipulation.

Nah. No way. Ever since the Orlando Magic miraculously got the number one pick the next season after picking Shaq number one the previous year. I have been suspicious. The Magic were the last team to miss the playoffs that year. They only had one ball in the lottery. One ball and they get the number one pick and Shaq daddy gets running mate Penny Hardaway and bam the Magic are one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Shaq was one of the most intriguing players to come along in the NBA for a while at that point. The league stood to make alot of money by having Shaq in the spotlight on the biggest stage as soon as possible. The NBA wants their poster boys to have strong teams around them.

Some more on the NBA's manipulation... Was there any doubt the Lebron was gonna be a Cavalier? The Cavs had less than a 40% chance of their ball coming up and giving them the first pick that year. I had no doubt they would get him. There wasn't even any suspense. The Cavs tanked their whole season are purpose to ensure they would have the best chance possible. The Cavs traded Andre Miller (one of the best PG's in the league at the time for I think Darius Miles yuk). They made that trade because with Miller there was no way they would be as bad as they needed to be to position themselves to get Lebron. Ironically, they have needed a PG in the worst way ever since.

Since the Cavs have gotten Lebron the NBA has wanted a strong team around him in Cleveland. When the Cavs fucked up and lost Boozer. It was unacceptable. Somehow though, the Cavs ended up trading Tony Battie and his gimpy knees to I think, Orlando of all teams, for both Drew Gooden and Anderson Varejao. Wow. That was awfully easy for the Cavs and Lebron to land on their feet following the Boozer debacle. I wonder if Orlando has gotten any payback from the league since that trade. Hey, when exactly did Orlando get the number one pick again and draft Dwight Howard.

Good luck Mr. Oden. If you leave the scarlet and grey you'll next be wearing Celtic green and you'll be cashing in alot of green stuff at the bank as well. Who could blame you?

So yes OSUsushichic, get ready to root for Greg Oden for a long time to come! Do you really think the NBA wants to see him in Memphis. Not on your life.

Go Buckeyes!!!!

If you truly believe the conspiracy theories, Oden will end up either with the Knicks or the Lakers.

I think you mean to the Bulls via the Knicks. If Stern wants ratings thats the way to do it. The Bulls return to a dynasty and the fans of the Knicks run Isiah out with pitchforks and torches; and leave the Knicks with millions of 'what if's'

If he declares and doesn't sign an agent, Oden can indeed see who wins the lottery before deciding if he wishes to remain in this year's NBA draft.

The relevant NBA dates:

4-29 - last day for underclassmen to declare for the draft
5-22 - NBA Draft Lottery to determine the order of selections
6-18 - early entrant withdrawal deadline
6-28 - NBA Draft

The lottery consists of ping pong balls being used to 'randomly' assign the first three picks. Teams in the lottery (everybody not in the playoffs) get a number of ping pong balls based on their records, the team with the worst record has about a 25% chance of winning, the second worst team about 20%, down to the lottery team with the best record having less than a 1% chance.

As BW141 mentioned, the Bulls will flip their first-round choice with the Knicks once again this year, and thus get a lottery pick, as part of the Eddie Curry trade.

Hmmmm. I would think that would have to be a small consideration, but I guess it could be factor. But really, if he's gonna go, I can't really see him backing out just because a certain team wins the lottery. He knows he can get into the NBA, do his three years and go wherever he wants after that. If his decision is to made on the basis of finances, then I think he will go no matter what. And these is nothing wrong with that. If he wants to ensure that he will be on a good team next year, he should just stay. And there is definetly nothing wrong with that

The Columbus CBS news station just did a piece on what Oden's dad said. They called his mom who said that he still hasnt made a decision yet, and I want to say his dad had said he was misquoted or something (but I'm not sure). Also, Conley Sr. was interviewed and said Mike Conley Jr. hasnt made a decision yet.

I just don't know what to believe anymore lol.

This all must seem very strange to these guys. Three teenagers and millions of people are eagerly anticipating a life decision from them. A slew of two bit reporters constantly lurking, false reports, misquotes all over the place, etc. This thing has become downright comical. I wonder how these kids feel about all this? To be honest, it would drive me nuts. This really isn't stuff a teenager should have to worry about. I admire all of them for staying so mature about this whole thing. They do seem like really good guys and they seem to be well advised. If they weren't, they probably would have decided to go already. Taking the time to decide, to talk things over, to think things through shows a great amount of maturity. Most people that age tend to fire from the hip.

I don't think it's fair to these kids that people are hanging on to every word that their second cousin's roommate says about them. I think it's even less fair that the mass media takes the slightest whisper that they're leaving and run with it. I know if I were Greg Oden I'd just want to be left alone, and try to be normal. It's okay to wait for an official word, and I think all of us are doing just that. I'm just sick of ESPN talking to Greg Oden's uncle and hearing that GO won't make a decision until Monday, and taking that to mean that GO is staying for 3 more years and then printing that all over their website and on SportsCenter, etc.

I think (I hope) all this badgering by reporters and whatnot is showing Greg, Mike, and Cook what being in the NBA spotlight is going to be like. And I hope they hate it. And I hope they hate it so much that they want to ride it all out for 4 years to put off what is inevitable down the line.

I hope.

Well it isn't exactly like being at Ohio State allows these guys to live outside of the microscope.
