C Dallas Lauderdale (Maine Red Claws - NBA G-League)

I love Dallas and not so much because he is a basketball player for The Ohio State University but because he is a wonderful son to his mother who has a debilitating disease MS . I know that when he was being recruited 4 years ago that he wanted to stay close to home so that he would be close to his mother. I don't think that she has been able to see any of his games in person which is a shame. Hopefully, there might be some way that she is able to come to his final home game as a senior. I would have to believe that his mother's illness is a heavy burden on Dallas but you never hear anything about that which, in a way, is a tribute to Dallas.

On a side note, he can dunk with the best of them:wink:

I agree that I like the Dallas/Sully combo. And I also think Dallas would have been effective in the Wisky game. Let's hope on Senior Night he'll get some minutes.
Specifically, the talent Dallas has is being able to block a 3-point shot attempt without fouling. I can remember him doing it several times over the last year or two.
Lauderdale was crucial against Indiana; I know, it's just Indiana, but he and Deshuan were our bigs for most of the first half.
Sad, but playing Indiana is not good practice for playing Wisconsin.
Well, let's get through Penn State first. That will be a tough game. They're looking for redemption, and beating Ohio State would be just the way to do it.

please take the time to read the following farewell from dallas to his fans. he is an outstanding individual who deserves everything positive coming his way.

on this note...

disregarding any on-the-court abilities, can you recall a better ohio state basketball team? there are have been no egos. there have been no fights. there have been no temper tantrums. each player has a great attitude and it shows. i am in true awe of what matta has molded. we are blessed.

As I sit here playing Mario Kart on the Wii with my brothers from different mothers -- Dave Lighty, Jared Sullinger and Evan Ravenel -- I realize [Sunday's] game against Wisconsin is probably the last time I will ever play in the Schott, in front of the best fans in the land.

Some might say it's very emotional, and yes it is. But honestly, it is more exciting for me than it is emotional. I am excited to see what God has for my life next, because wherever he leads me I will go. One of my favorite verses in the Bible says in Romans 8:28: "All things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to his purposes." That's a very encouraging scripture for anyone in any situation.

People always say cherish this time of your life because it goes fast, and I didn't listen to them. But my, oh my, did it fly. You guys like that rhyme? Ha ha.

The team player

osu-mbk-seniors-art-g22bs60s-1osubball16-ncl-0534-jpg.jpg

Before the season, Lauderdale said he wanted to play more than the 25 minutes he averaged as the starting center last season.

He has started every game but typically been replaced at the first timeout by freshman guard Aaron Craft and seen spot duty thereafter. He is averaging 17.3 minutes and has played as few as six. Craft is averaging 29 minutes and has played as many as 40.

Lauderdale said he hasn't brought it up with Matta.

"There would be no (point in) speaking about playing time," he said. "We're winning games. That's the most important thing. I want to win games. So whatever I need to do, that's what I'll do."

"He's really done a tremendous job as a leader," Matta said.

Not every player would be as magnanimous as Lauderdale. But he brings uncommon perspective.

"I know God's in control of all things, that everything happens for a specific reason," said Lauderdale, whose father is a pastor. "That's why it doesn't really faze me, because in the Bible it says that all things work together for the good. That keeps me encouraged."

Lauderdale learned self-sacrifice young. His mother's multiple sclerosis was diagnosed in 1996. In high school, he helped care for her because she had lost the use of her legs. Her affliction has prevented her from attending most of his games, including today's.

"It's a team game," Lauderdale said. "Just as there isn't one person who would be able to take care of my mother by themselves, there's not one person on the basketball court who can win a game by himself. It's a team game. I play my role."

Solon's Dallas Lauderdale Finishes NCAA Career
Ohio State eliminated from NCAA tournament with loss to Kentucky.
By Chris R. Vaccaro

NEWARK, N.J. ? It?s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Solon native Dallas Lauderdale.

The Ohio State 6-foot-8 senior forward had an impromptu graduation prior to a second-round win over George Mason in the NCAA tournament last week and it continued with the top-seeded Buckeyes this week on their quest to win a national title.

That came to an end Friday as Ohio State lost to fourth-seeded Kentucky, 62-60, in the NCAA East Regional Semifinals at Prudential Center.

Lauderdale, who has played all four years, ranks fourth all-time in school history in games played with 138. He only logged five minutes in the loss, grabbing two defensive rebounds.

Kentucky advances to the Elite 8 Sunday, where it will play North Carolina, who beat Marquette, 81-63, in the other East Regional Semifinal.

?It?s not the way we wanted to end it, especially with the group we have,? Lauderdale said. ?I just didn?t want the season to end. Kentucky made some great plays and they have some great players. They made plays they needed to make to get the win, we didn?t.?

DraftExpress.com ranks him as the 37th best senior in this year?s graduating class for the NBA Draft, but the chances of being picked are slim.

?I?m trying to play somewhere,? he said. ?I don?t know where, but wherever God leads me, I?ll go. I don?t know what God has for me.?

I feel bad that Dallas saw his roll reduced so much this year. With the senior heavy team and super-freshmen in Sully and Craft there were only so many minutes to go around. I know Matta conditions the team so that they can play 40 minutes, but I wouldn't mind seeing everyone get a couple minute rest per half just to keep them fresh. That might have helped Dallas get some extra minutes every game.
Hopefully Dallas can continue to develop and have a good NBA career. I saw more moves out of him this year than I have in the past so I think he still has a lot of room to grow. I wish I had a dollar for every time this season that I thought how nice it would be if you could combine Dallas and Sully into one player. Combine Sully's head, hands, and girth with Dallas' length and athletic ability and you would have one of the greatest PF's ever. Best of luck DL.
