robert swift is making 3.6m this year...after reupping for his second contract.
his intial contract was 5.3m over 3 years with an option fo a fourth year at 2.6m.
my math has that at 8.9m for 94 games played so far. not bad... many here will never make 8.9m over their lifetime...

4 million dollars - 35% = 2.6 million... that's $130k per year for 20 years.

Chances are BJ will get a second contract on potential alone, when looking at the wealth of poor big men getting millions. Even if he only earns a million a year for 3 more years... that's another 20 years of $130k per.

or at robert swifts pace of 8.9m so far in the bank (not including what he is contractually obligated) that is about 68.5 years of making 130k a year. not many can say theyll make 130k a year for 69 years.

at 250k a year that is 35.6 years. 36 years is about an average lifetime of work. hell average 250k a year at that rate only having 4 years in the nba.

and as previously mentioned..during the term of this initial contract, he isn't gonna be spending money like he is making $130k, in addition to the fact that it sounds like there will be many family financial obligations.

Meanwhile, both Draftexpress.com and NBAdraftdepot.com have Ohio State freshman B.J. Mullens going 18th in their mock drafts, to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Both sites predict that Mullens will be the fifth freshman taken. NBAdraftnet.com has Mullens going No. 21 to New Orleans.

Mullens is rumored to have decided on Andy Miller of ASM Sports as his agent. Miller's clients include Kevin Garnett and Chauncey Billups. Mullens also is rumored to be headed to Las Vegas to train at Impact Basketball, where Kosta Koufos trained before the draft last year. A Mullens adviser said he could not confirm either rumor.

Obama and geitner will probably take 90% of what he makes as a windfall tax. I can hardly wait to see what they do with all the overpaid pros.

Aey, Chris: I think some guys think they're staying in college and then decide to leave for the NBA early. I'm not sure any freshmen come in planning to bolt and then change their minds.

I think Mullens was set on staying for just one season, and Thad Matta knew it coming in. After something far less than a dominant year, Matta saw reasons for Mullens to stay, but, obviously, the freshman did not.

North Carolina senior Tyler Hansbrough said the other day that he has gone through this season mentally preparing himself to leave. Of course, Hansbrough did it after four college seasons, not one.

But if a freshman like Mullens is thinking the same thing, and for financial reasons that would help his family, it's understandable. There's not much anyone can do.

I read some conspiracy theories that Matta limited Mullens to 20.3 minutes per game because he wanted to lower his draft value to try to get him to stay. Not likely. If Matta thought playing Mullens more would have helped the Buckeyes, Mullens would have played 34 minutes per game.

By the way, Chad Ford at espn.com lists Mullens as his No. 23 prospect among draftable players, while draftexpress.com has Mullens going 18th in its latest mock draft.

B.J. Mullens works out at least six days a week with Joe Abunassar, a former college assistant coach, in Las Vegas. Mullens said he has lost 10 pounds in three weeks.

Las Vegas advertises itself as a sin city where, whatever happens there, stays there.

Some athletes going to Joe Abunassar's Impact Basketball training center there for the first time imagine indulging themselves in the city's attractions, Abunassar said. Then he laughed.

"No one does anything here," he said, beyond eating, sleeping and training.

After three weeks in town preparing for the NBA draft, B.J. Mullens can vouch for that.

"There's no fun going on here," the recently departed Ohio State freshman said during his lunch break one day last week. "The only thing we see is the gym and the apartment. We're working out six hours a day, every day."

And on the seventh day?

"Sunday's optional," Mullens said. "But we're coming in anytime we get a chance."

Mullens, 20, said his only extracurricular activity is the video gaming system he took with him. Otherwise, he is working harder than ever.

"It's now or never," he said. "You can't hold nothing back. You've got to give it your all."

Ohio State was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament in the first round March 20. Less than a week later, the 7-foot Mullens announced that he was leaving school to enter the June 25 draft, in which he long has been projected as a first-round pick.

Contrary to what he and coach Thad Matta said publicly before and during the season, Mullens said last week that he never considered staying at Ohio State longer than the year he was required to.

"It's always been my goal to go to the NBA," he said. "I told coach Matta when I came in that if I had had a chance to go out of high school and not attend college, I would have. He said, 'That's fine.' It was a goal to go to college, but it's my dream to play NBA basketball."

The NBA Draft Buyer Beware List

No term gets abused more during draft time than the dreaded "bust" label. Everyone wants to be quick to identify those players who they don't think are going to be successful at the next level before they've even signed a contract or donned a jersey. For some players it's a motivation, while for others it's meaningless talk that isn't worth recognizing on the day they achieved every athlete's dream. Either way though it's overused and typically inaccurate because there's no telling what path a player's career is going to take that early on. So rather than continuing a tradition that needs to go away, we take a look at some of the prospects that should be drafted with caution in our buyer beware list.

B.J. Mullens 7'0, 275 lbs. (Center - Ohio State)
Mullens is ranked as the second best center in this year's class, greatly benefitting from the lack of depth at the position. During his freshman campaign Mullens' productivity was nowhere near where it was projected to be as a potential top five pick in this year's draft. Mullens averaged just eight points and four rebounds, failing to even garner a starting spot.

Offensively Mullens' footwork, touch, and post moves leave a lot to be desired as does his defensive activity. His size and athleticism that made him a star at the high school level were not enough to make him a standout in college and will be even less of an advantage in the NBA. Mullens is going to have to really work on developing as a basketball player and have a different mindset than he did at Ohio State if he wants to live up to the billing hype he built up two years ago.

Analysis: The Wolves don't have a true center, and Mullens is likely to be the best one remaining on the board. At the beginning of the season, he was ranked in our top five, but he slipped because although his talent remains, he's years away from being ready. However, a lottery team with lots of first-round picks such as Minnesota can roll the dice and pray the gamble pays off.

I don't think the Timberwolves are exactly in a position where they should be drafting somebody who's not going to contribute for at least 2-3 years. Not saying they won't take him, but I'd be pissed if I was a Wolves fan when my team sucks and they're drafting "potential" players instead of guys that actually have a chance to contribute their rookie year. B.J. needs to go to a playoff level team with a solid frontcourt where there won't be much expected of him to contribute his first couple years. This would take a lot of pressure off a him early on in his career which I think would help his development. I don't believe he's very mentally tough at this point so the less pressure he has to deal with early on the better.

It's going to take a few years, but Mullens has the size and soft hands to develop into a legit center. He'll be a wise investment for a team that is turning over its frontcourt.

UM fans are typically Detroit fans as well, and they despise BJ. It would be a very noisy pick if nothing else.

I know. They need so much help they need to get as many guys as they can that can help immediately, they can't be taking guys that when/if they end up being any good their rookie contract is up. Seems like a wasted pick to me.
