C Byron 'B.J.' Mullens (Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo - Japan)

What is the biggest deficiency for Mullens at this point? I'd say he is not a physical player at either end of the court. Seriously---how many times does he post up during a game? When the guy is 7' seems like he might take advantage of the height advantage.
you have to understand the offensive sets. people said the same thing about kk and oden. also toss in his team cant throw an entry pass to save their life...

Really it is about most of the big men not being athletic enough for today's style game, but BJ does have a nice jumper, and also is working on ball handling to do a little more off the bounce...

He is more athletic than most that have came out as well...As the article says, does he have the drive and determination for the next level...
You have seen him a lot more than I have in different situations but I keep on hearing about this sweet jump shot and I have never seen one in a game situation. In fact, I have seen a couple air balls.

He will probably leave but is he totally ready I personally don't think so. I think he needs to get a lot tougher physically and mentally but that has nothing to do with money:(

5. B.J. Mullens, C, Ohio State
If Thabeet's position in the draft is based on potential, then Mullens' is about long-range potential. He has the size and athleticism to be a dominant player in the pros, but by all accounts, he is not ready for the NBA.

Only in the last month has he been able to put up anything consistent on either end of the floor. And there are also questions about whether he has the maturity, the basketball IQ or the drive to make it at the next level.

However, while everyone agrees that Mullens needs another season at Ohio State, someone will take a chance on him in the lottery if he declares this year.

Other than that how did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

I'm not going to keep this going, I just found that funny as hell. I wish the kid luck I honestly do.

I'd agree. I can only think of maybe five actual shots I've seen him hit. The reason his percentage is so high is because he rarely shoots unless it's a dunk attempt. That's the reason he's so inconsistent. When you only have one way to score some games the opportunies come in bunches and sometimes you go scoreless against Indiana, the worst team in the league. I really can't think any time he got the ball on the block and beat somebody with a post move other than turning around and shooting a jump shot.

KK wasn't supposed to be a natural center though...(at least I thought).

I thought Oden did a good job posting up. Mullens seems to wait around for an open lane to go for the alley oop or to finish up a missed shot. Lauderdale posts up and bangs around inside more than Mullens does.

You might be able to count the 10ft or more jumpers on one hand that he has made, but you could also only count the number he has taken on 2 hands...

We just don't see it..I would like to see some pick n pop stuff with him at about 12 feet, with his feet set and say Turner trying to get to eh bucket where they double team him and not worry about BJ on a pop...

I am telling you the kid has a solid stroke...

Yeah he does have a nice looking shot, but he has no confidence in it. Otherwise he would take a lot more of those shots. He's 7-foot, if he had any confidence in that shot he could stand out there all day an hit it because nobody's going to come that far away from the basket to guard him. I don't think anybody's denying that he doesn't have a chance to be very good one day and I certainly won't say one bad thing about him if he does decide to leave, especially if he can be a lottery pick. I really think it would serve him very well to go through at least one more year of college basketball because he really isn't anywhere near being able to contribute to an NBA team right now offensively or defensively.
