C Byron 'B.J.' Mullens (Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo - Japan)

NBA Draft Watch: Top 10 big men - ESPN

5. B.J. Mullens, C, Ohio State
If Thabeet's position in the draft is based on potential, then Mullens' is about long-range potential. He has the size and athleticism to be a dominant player in the pros, but by all accounts, he is not ready for the NBA.

Only in the last month has he been able to put up anything consistent on either end of the floor. And there are also questions about whether he has the maturity, the basketball IQ or the drive to make it at the next level.

However, while everyone agrees that Mullens needs another season at Ohio State, someone will take a chance on him in the lottery if he declares this year.

Another year at Ohio State would be in the interest of Mullens. I hope that he is listening to reasoned opinions and doesn't find himself being one more player who disappears from the radar in Europe.

A big year next year and the sky is the limit for this kid.

I'm normally a big proponent of getting to the NBA as fast as possible but I think all the great big men in the NBA have been the ones with experience under their belts. Bynum is about the only true center who's made the jump that's tasted success off of the top of my head. Thabeet is a pretty good testament to what patience with your college career can reward you with.

That being said making a 100,000K isn't the worst card someone could get delt in life playing ball overseas.

BJ's interest is what he decides to do because it's his life.

Really it is about most of the big men not being athletic enough for today's style game, but BJ does have a nice jumper, and also is working on ball handling to do a little more off the bounce...

He is more athletic than most that have came out as well...As the article says, does he have the drive and determination for the next level...

What is the biggest deficiency for Mullens at this point? I'd say he is not a physical player at either end of the court. Seriously---how many times does he post up during a game? When the guy is 7' seems like he might take advantage of the height advantage.
