a weekend visit from 6-10 Amir Williams from Country Day in the Detroit area becomes extremely interesting.
However, Purdue fans shouldn?t get too excited about Williams just yet. For several months, I have believed that Ohio State is at the top of Wiliams? list and that the Boilermakers may have gotten involved a bit too late.
Williams told several sources on Friday that his final five are Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan, Florida and DePaul.
New Boilermaker assistant coach Mike Jackson has a relationship with Williams from when Jackson was an assistant at Michigan, and that will help Purdue. Anything is possible, but I don?t see Purdue prying Williams away from Ohio State.
A Twitter follower (known as a "tweep") said a Michigan message board suggested that 2011 center Amir Williams, who is visiting Ohio State on Nov.12-13 and could sign with the Buckeyes, may not be qualified for freshman eligibility.
Williams' coach at Detroit Country Day School, Kurt Keener, said in an e-mail that he could not discuss the matter specifically because of the school's confidentiality policy. But he added that since the inception of the NCAA's original Proposition 48 guidelines, the school has not had a student fail to achieve the minimum NCAA standards for freshmen eligibility.

With the early signing period set to start in less than a week, here's a look at the top uncommitted centers.
Amir Williams (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day School)
Player rank: 39 | Position rank: 2 | Grade: 95 | Stars: 4
Height: 6-10 | Weight: 220 pounds
Considering:
Purdue Ohio State Florida Michigan DePaul
Why they want him: Williams is a hybrid post with the length, athleticism and quick bounce to make plays above the rim on both ends of the floor. He beats opposing bigs from rim to rim to score in transition, blocks shots from the weak side of the floor and rebounds on both ends. His offensive skills are also consistently evolving with an emerging low-post and face-up game.
Recruiting update: Williams recently trimmed his list to just five with Purdue, Ohio State, and Florida thought to be the favorites. He is in the midst of taking his visits now, having just returned from Purdue last weekend, traveling to Michigan this weekend and having a trip scheduled for Ohio State Nov. 12.

The class could grow by one before the signing period ends. Amir Williams, a 6-10 center from Detroit, will visit campus this weekend and decide whether to sign with Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, Florida or DePaul.
Williams, the fourth-ranked center in the nation, is expected to attend the season opener against North Carolina A&T on Friday in Value City Arena and the football game against Penn State on Saturday.
Another player the Buckeyes are after for their 2011 class, 6-10 center Amir Williams of Detroit, won't sign until the last day of the signing period, Nov. 17. He is making an official visit to Ohio State this weekend.

Michigan makes strong bid for Country Day star Amir Williams

College basketball coaches from coast to coast breathed huge sighs of relief Wednesday thanks to the onset of the early signing period. Many of them were finally able to rest easier, steeped in the knowledge that their recruits were officially bound by letters of intent. At the same time, the grind to complete the 2011 class was not yet over for some. Some uncommitted prospects, like Detroit Country Day center Amir Williams, plan on exhausting all seven days of signing period before arriving at a decision. That makes for a few more sleepless nights for the schools still hot on his trail.
"Right now it is Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, Purdue and DePaul," said Williams in no particular order. "I'm probably going to announce (a decision) next Wednesday."
The 6-10, 225-pounder has visited all of those schools except Ohio State. The most recent of his trips was last weekend to Ann Arbor. It was Michigan's final chance to impress the four-star prospect, and the Wolverine coaching staff certainly made the most of the opportunity.
"(Assistant) Coach (Bacari Alexander) showed me all these post moves at their practice," Williams recalled. "The moves were really advanced and I really liked what they were doing. Coach Alexander has a good track record with (post players). I feel like if I went there he would give me a shot to be in the league one day with the way he develops big men. Coach Alexander answered all of my questions."
Added Williams: "I feel like I could play for Coach Beilein. He and I have a very good relationship. I feel very comfortable with him and the staff. Coach told me what an asset I could be to the team overall. I just had a very good visit at Michigan."
That Beilein's program is now a viable contender for the nation's No. 2 center is a surprising development to many recruiting pundits. Not long ago, conventional wisdom had Williams headed down a path leading directly out of state.
"If you had asked me a week ago, I would have said Michigan was a courtesy visit," said ScoutHoops.com national recruiting analyst Brian Snow. "But the last couple of days I've talked to some people who have told me that Michigan is right there. Amir is one of the better poker players in this class and no one seems to have a great feel, but I think Michigan is going to be a factor. Will they get the kid? Right now I think they are in his top two or three with probably Ohio State and Florida."
Only Williams and Ross are here on official visits according to the unofficial/official visit dates under Buckeye Football forum However, I would take a definite commitment from Ross and just a commitment from Williams and call it a weekend:) Wonder who the other guys were that were taking in the game err shellackingsouthcampus;1809516; said:Amir and a TON of other recruits are on hand at the Schott. Might hear some good news on the recruiting front as a whole.
With 2011 center Amir Williams not scheduled to announce his decision until Wednesday, Matta is not permitted to comment on his recruiting. So I asked him what I called a "necessarily vague question -- "how do you feel about the rest of the signing period coming up?"
"Necessarily, I have to give a vague answer," Matta replied with a smile. "Who knows?"
Williams will choose from among Ohio State, Florida, Purdue, Michigan and DePaul.
