BUCKEYES : NC OR BUST ?

I simply can't find a loss in those first 11 games. Not if our O is remotely what it should be.

What troubles me is the likelihood of a UM rematch situation. It is very difficult to beat a team twice, let along in back to back games.

If you look historically at the results of rematches between ranked teams it almost completely undermines what it means to "prove it on the field".
THIS.

By the way, I don't care what anyone says we will be better on both sides of the ball this year. I worry about a lack of leadership more than anything.

Two things:

1) I have put off posting in this thread for awhile but I think this is a stupid question. "Or bust"? If "we" don't win the NC are we going to scrap the program? Is there going to be a mass suicide? Will there be a sharp decline in ticket purchases and ad revenue? If "we" don't win it, it won't be because the people actually doing the work haven't worked hard enough and the question trivializes what they put into the season. I get that this isn't the intent of the thread but it's still a stupid question to which the only possible answer is "Of course not.". So why even ask it?

2) The point about playing the same team twice, especially if that team is a primary rival, is well taken. However, I'm a lot more comfortable with the prospect with this offense. It's not "Dave, huddle, Repeat" anymore and tOSU's ability to change and execute would seem to far exceed scUM's. I like that match-up, even twice, and beating them twice this year would be epic sweet.

No, not NC or bust, but I will say B1G Champs or bust.

With our schedule being so soft, 1 loss would mean we would need a whole lot of help to even reach the NC game. Going undefeated is really, really hard no matter the schedule. Like a lot of you, I can't really see a possible loss besides NW and scUM, but I know there will be a game or two that won't end up being so easy.

That said, our division should be pretty pathetic as a whole. I can even see a 2-conference loss Buckeye squad still winning it, and if we make the title game it will be a pass/fail situation in my eyes.

Just one letdown, one loss would seriously hurt our chances. But, as we have seen in the past, the last week of college football can change things dramatically.
We will have to be "special" again. Can we?
And with ESPiN working against us, can we overcome the media prejudice?

I'd say it's more like "being competitive in a NC game or bust." Considering our last 2 NC games, the fact that they were against SEC teams and this year would likely be the same I would just be horrified if we looked like the Domers last year. A loss in a close fought game wouldn't be a "bust" in my book considering many of the players in the game would pick up some very valuable experience for a more serious bid the following year and the program would clearly be seen as having arrived. That's a far cry different from what the Domer's could say after last year. So, as a strict answer to the question: it depends :wink2:

I'm confused. Is this year any different than any other year for Buckeye Nation (NC or Bust)? Post Woody era, who didn't much care if tOSU won pre-season, as long as won B10 (NC's would take care of themselves), Tress got everyone looking forward to National Championships (fallback would be the Rose Bowl - not so long/hard a fall).

With his first season 12-0, Urb has set Buckeye Nation expectations remarkably high, with the only thing bigger would be 13-0 (which in all probability means a NC). Would hate to see a one loss SEC team edge out tOSU's 12-0 record for NC berth, but it could happen. Or if there are 3+ perfect records, someone has to be left out....I am being too much of a 'negative Nellie' for a Friday.

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: tOSU WILL go undefeated, and WILL win the NC

All you can do is win your games.

Whether that gets you an "NC" depends on polls, etc., because of the system. It's not entirely in your hands, so to attach "or bust" to it seems a bit silly to me.

What about Alabama? Their schedule is just as soft. 2 FCS teams and only 3 teams with 9 or more wins last season.

They have Virginia Tech which is at least a name program and A&M and LSU are both at least top 15 teams plus the SECCG against another top 10 opponent if they get there. I agree that their schedule is soft but it is still decidedly stronger on paper than this years Ohio State schedule. I find our overall schedule to be abysmal this year. Perhaps other B1G teams will step it up to make it stronger overall but I don't see it.

That touches on why the pre season bias towards the SEC gives them such a head start to getting teams into the NC games. While I don't doubt how great Alabama will be in a given year allot of their other teams start allot higher then I think they should. So when an Alabama beat them it makes Alabama look even better, and if they happen to lose they don't slip as far as a team from the BigTen would.

As for title or bust with the college game... just to far to go. One bad play or bad game early in the season shouldn't make a season a "Bust". I save that sort of thought process for the Pro's where they can lose multiple times during a season and put it all together for the playoffs.
