BUCKEYES : NC OR BUST ?

They have Virginia Tech which is at least a name program and A&M and LSU are both at least top 15 teams plus the SECCG against another top 10 opponent if they get there. I agree that their schedule is soft but it is still decidedly stronger on paper than this years Ohio State schedule. I find our overall schedule to be abysmal this year. Perhaps other B1G teams will step it up to make it stronger overall but I don't see it.

We have California which is at least a name program and Michigan and Wisconsin are both at least top 15 teams plus the B1GCG against another top 10 opponent if they get there.

Cal was terrible last year. I'm not sure how much they'll improve this year.

I think Michigan and Wisconsin are top 15 teams at best, not at least. Both have some major holes to fill and I don't see top 10 for either. I could be wrong and it would certainly help the national perception of Ohio State and the B1G if I am.

And Virginia Tech was awesome last year?

I wasn't referring to your grammar. I am, however, questioning your word choice.

The same Cal team almost beat us in The Shoe, and now we're traveling 2,000 miles to play them. Let me remind you that we normally don't fare well when we have such a long road trip early in the season (struggled to win at a shitty Washington team in 2007, got curb-stomped at USC in 2008). The only players on the current roster who have even played on the West Coast are the 5th year seniors who went to the Rose Bowl after the 2009 season. In fact, the farthest West any of them have played (aside from that 2010 Rose Bowl) is Lincoln, NE. Of all the games on our schedule, this is the game I'd designate as a "trap game".

But none of that was with Coach Meyer and a team who actually understood the offense....which from what we're hearing at least, they finally understand it. Plus we have another off season to work on tackling.

Typically a "trap game" is a game sandwiched between two bigger games on a schedule. I guess I see your point... Cal is sandwiched between two national powers: San Diego State and Florida A&M. I can see why we'd overlook a road game against a Pac 12 school.

This game will NOT be close. Take the Bucks on the spread.

We don't play two national powers at all this regular season. So to me in this case a trap game is one we're the most likely to lose despite being heavy favorites. The fans are ones overlooking this game, so maybe I should've said "fan trap"?

I see 1 loss somewhere on the schedule, maybe 2, though 2 would have to be some team playing lights out and catching OSU at the right time. I still think they get to the B1G championship and maybe with 1 loss early they can get to the NC game.

12-2 or 13-1 is still fucking fantastic.

PS - Please point me to this post if OSU loses come fall. Lord knows I will be highly unstable.

I think Cal is going to be pretty awful this year.....yea it's a long trip but the game in theory should not be close

Their QB situation is still up for grabs and none of the QBs in the mix have ever thrown a pass at the NCAA level

They have no proven RB, the guy expected to start did gash us last year (160 yards on 4 carries) but he is recovering from knee surgery and only had 44 carries all of last season

Their oline is awful in pass protection (115th in sacks allowed in 2012)

They are replacing 3 starters in what already was an awful secondary in 2012

Don't seem to have much in terms of proven pass rush (leading sacker had 3.5 last year)

basically they are a lackluster team in about all categories

The biggest under-performance is likely to come at Cal for reasons that Mili explained and should be obvious to anyone who has watched College Football for a couple of decades (allowance given for slow learners).

The most likely loss is in the NC game. For reasons that jwins has spelled out and should be obvious if you care enough to be here in the off-season, this is a flawed Buckeye team, but they won't face a team who isn't until the NC game (and only then if they don't slip up).

The good news is that they have until January to work on their flaws.
