BuckeyePlanet Discussion - All views welcome

This is the only thread I could think of to fit my idea. If it doesn't belong in this thread, then nevermind.

Anyway, sometimes I notice that fans of other teams get on here and are total jerk-asses. I find it really funny, but then their posts are deleted. Most of the time, I don't even get to read the posts, but I can tell that they were pretty funny because either people reply to them, or a moderator changes his posts to say something like, "I'm as smart as a baloney sandwich."

How about putting these posts that might upset some people in another forum or another thread? That way, I can see how crazy some visiting fans can be, and the people who will be upset with them don't have to read them?

Just a suggestion. Carry on!!

I came up with this one yesterday when I was talking to Thump.

So We all know it's the off season and after recruiting is done and stuff we all get pretty slap happy and just discuss just about anything. No there are lots of people who are going to be coming here for the first time, and of course many will stick around.

So with that we are going to have threads such as favorite buckeye memory etc all pop back up again.

While we don't want lots of the same threads I think combining the thread right away may intimidate some people who are new etc.

So I would say if a thread gets started that hasn't been talked about for 6 months or so it stays by it's self for a week or maybe two at the most. that way it give people a chance to get through some of them with ease. After one to two weeks, that thread would then be merged with the pre-existing one.

Just a thought

Great idea...and a valid point in all seriousness. However, how long will that thread go before someone points out that it has already been posted or discussed? Then, you end up hijacked...and that opens the door for more bad feelings and so forth.

It has become a bit of a competition to be the first to call someone an idiot for starting a new thread... I think all we need is to be a little friendlier.

I am guilty as well for doing that in the past. New posters are almost always going to start repeating threads because face it, if you aren't on here at least once a day you are totally lost on what is being discussed in the forums.

On the whole merging deal, I understand the issue. The question is how do we proceed from here? I have merged related threads almost immediately when I have discovered them. This would be a good topic to take to the 'other' forum at some point imo.

Before we get too "PC" around here, let's remember that BP was founded on the basis of the individual voice. Folks have every right to post the way they want...and others have that same right to respond. As long as it does not get personal and degrade into namecalling and such, a discussion should be able to rise in heat, peak at absolute disagreement, and then, hopefully, be compromised as an agreement to just disagree with no grudges being held going foreward. However, everyone has that right to discuss the entire course of an argument. By allowing this, we will not compromise the level of discussion on BP and those cannot rise to that level will be left to lurk or adjust their thought process to present a logical argument. I'm all for mass invovlement..but not at the sake of BP's expectations for intelligence.
