Buckeye Tailbacks - 2005 (official thread)

what about schnittker. in a worst-case-scenario, he could probably go to tailback.
From I seen in between freezing my butt off at the spring game, Schnittker looked pretty decent carrying the ball...H e has that way of punishing the DBS if he gets back there. He even turned the corner once LOL.

Mounting evidence seems to point to Anderson Russell as a real possibility at running back if his cards fall right and he lights it up in August! Big IF though. The coaches are very excited about him! Let me add, he was ALL State Honorable Mention, at RB!

He also won most of his track meets this spring in the 100m and 200m. I saw on the Marist HS website that his best time this year in the 100m is 10.89 and his best in the 200m is 22.20. Not too bad and it means he's a hell of a lot faster than the 4.59/40 that Rivals reports that he runs.

4th and 1....

Smith at QB,
Schnittker at TB,
D. Johnson at FB,
White at HB,
Our improved O-line.

If we don't get the first we should quit!

All those backs mean shit if the OL doesn't block. Just look at Michigan's two goal line stands against us. The OL did quite a good job pass blocking most, and rush blocking inside our own 20, but outside our own 20 the rush blocking was quite lacking for the most part. I'm not an OL expert, but it looked like they didn't pick up the last-second DL shifts, especially near their goal line.

On fourth and one I want to see Schnittker lined up in front of Haw. Schnittker is a bruiser, but if the line misses a block he doesn't have the speed or vision to make the adjustment.

The O-Line should be improved this year if for no other reason than there are backs with better vision (Pittman and Haw) than we've had since #13 left. An offensive line is only as good as the guy picking which hole to run through and knowing how hard to hit it, when to cut back, bounce it out etc.

Schnittker blocks like Lydell Ross runs. The only Schnittker thing bruises is his ass when he falls on the ground after whiffing a block.

I don't really think he's that bad, he's not as good as we're used to, but Milani is the expert- we'll have to see this fall if he's improved. here's CFN's breakdown.

Running Backs
The Buckeye backfield is long on great prospects, but short on actual production. Antonio Pittman had one great game against Indiana to pique everyone's interest, and now he has to prove he can get the job done over the course of an entire season. Erik Haw is a phenomenal prospects with home-run hitting speed. There are three talented fullbacks with a variety of skills.
Player to keep an eye on: Erik Haw, RFr. ... Running back rating: 7.5

Projected Starters
- Antonio Pittman, Soph. - Pittman is a decent-sized back with good moves averaging 5.3 yards per carry with 381 yards and a touchdown. The Buckeye faithful wanted to see more of him after a brilliant 144-yard, one touchdown performance against Indiana, but he didn't get the ball much the rest of the way. Now he'll be the main runner needing to prove he can be a workhorse and can't be a fumbler.
- Fullback Brandon Schnittker, Jr. - A pure blocking back, the 250-pound junior didn't get any carries but he did catch two passes for 19 yards. He has been a solid contributor from day one and will be a physical factor in the ground game.

Top Backups
- Erik Haw, RFr. - Haw could have the best combine skills of any Buckeye running back since Robert Smith. He's a strong 6-1 and 210 pounds with 4.3, track star speed. Used as a scout teamer last year, he'll be given every shot at taking over the starting job.
- Fullback Stan White, Jr. - Able to play tight end or fullback, White is an athletic 6-3, 242-pound blocker who'll be used more as a receiver from the backfield. He's the quickest of the fullback options.
- Fullback Dionte Johnson, Soph. - Son of former Buckeye great Pepper, Dionte is a big, talented fullback who can be a power runner and a good blocker. He's a physical player who could be used as a pounding tailback

Actually is was more like 3,000+ yards. IIRC he was only the fourth to ever do it in big division football in FLA and the first since a guy named Barry Sanders.

Ah dangit Bucknut you beat me by one minute. I got to get a little quicker, I guess.
