Buckeye Receivers - 2005

Yeah Oilerbuck I see where you're going with this. Good point, and I do agree with Tressel always wanting to have the Taller Split End. I too think that we need a TRUE possession reciever. Whether thats Lyons or Hall is remained to be seen but for the near future I think we'll try to get our tight ends more involved, and why shouldn't we when we have Hamby/Nicol/Frost/Hall. FWIW I wish Frost would move back to DE.

Keep in mind that I don't have the football knowledge of Grad21...
Wow you must not know jack if you are basing that on me...

I agree with many of the opinions you guys are throwing out there. However, I see Lyons being a very special player. Its easy to spot Gonzo some points because he is semi-established due to his contributions late in the season. However, Gonzo is also the recipient of increased attention to two phenomenal receivers. Don't take that as a slap at all because the kid is a player...however, I just see the potential for a kid like Lyons. He can make plays with his speed and also with his body size without needing the increased attention.

In a nutshell, we are blessed with talent at receiver this year.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but having this kind of receiving corps helps create a mismatch somewhere else too....the running game. Defenses are going to have to double up on either Ginn or Holmes but still be weary of the guy they leave single-covered. Committing that kind of personnel to the WR's leaves the box open for the running game. I look for very good production from the WR position, with that leading to a better overall offense with the emergence of a good running game.

Let's all just hope and pray that Tressel keeps the offense open this year. Tressel actually does want a potent offense, but with such a young team last year seemed to play the "better safe than sorry" approach.

Cmon Jimmy, these guys have LOADS of talent just waiting to be unleashed on the NCAA.

ESPN Poll - Best WR's in CFB (Ginn, Holmes, etc.)

New poll on their website asking who will be the best wide receiver in college football this season has Ted Ginn running away with it. Great to see Santonio in there too giving us two receivers generally regarded as the best in the country this year. Cast your votes!

As of 5:23PM, 5/25/05:

Ted Ginn 45%
Jarrett Hicks (Texas Tech) 17%
Calvin Johnson (Georgia Tech) 17%
Santonio Holmes 12%
Derek Hagen (Arizona State) 8%

and more proof that internet polls are retarded

hes not even the best WR on the team
The poll ask who will be the best wide receiver in college football this season.
You're right Holmes was the better WR last year, but Ted Ginn was a true freshmen who didn't graduate early and have a lot of time to learn the offense. In fact I think some of the summer he was training to be a DB, so with the a whole year behind him, I don't think its retarded for won to assume he will be the better of the two recievers this year. He isn't yet but the season hasn't started.
I do agree that he shouldn't be running away with it by that much though.
