Buckeye Receivers - 2005

Unless you ahve seen every other teams receivers, that questions can;t be answered.

Also, weren't posters saying our LB were going to be the best this year?

We can't predict the future.

Well, if we didn't have the top LB crew, we did have one of the best for sure. UM's WR were probably the best this year. I do think that our WR have the potential to be among the discussion for sure, especially if Ginn stays fulltime offense. Gonzo can be devastating as a 3rd WR because of that speed moreso than his shiftiness (which is what the UM second and third guys brought to the table).

But think about that. We could have the potential to have 2 of the best units in college football next year. That is a big deal. And if Ginn plays CB instead of WR and does the things on defense he has done on offense, we could have the best DBs too.

Obviously I think Hoobler ends up at LB and Worthington ends up at DE...just saying that they could provide depth at the TE spot.

Apparently we are having Jared Cook, 6'5 210 lb. WR from Suwanee, GA in to visit OSU on the 14th. Insiders lists no offer from OSU, but offers from Mississippi State (supposed leader) and South Carolina, both of whom he is also visiting.

Disagree. If he contacts JT & co. about transferring, he will be accepted IMHO.

IIRC, Stanley McClover's renewed interest in us after his first year at Auburn was shot down by our coaching staff immediately, and he was a very highly regarded recruit, and I don't think he had any of the baggage of Fred Davis (i.e., tardiness, grades, complaining to the press). Since then, he ended up having a very nice season for Auburn this past year.

Buster Avis????? I remember that clown. Didn't he concoct the story about Xavier Lee and other recruits having dinner at Tressels house. That was some funny stuff.

so Siva retsub = buster avis, I can't believe I didn't make that connection before. So far that clown is behaving himself. So far.............

Wide Receiver depth is starting to look a little low. We have so many questions with this right now.

WR - Santonio Holmes (you never know. I think it might be 50-50 now he might leave, because of his 2 children. Some insiders in San Antonio now state that they see the gleam in his eyes that this is his last game as a Buckeye. Hopefully he is true to his word that he'll stay, but we have seen players change their minds before, in both going to the draft, and in the recruiting world. Nothing is ever set in stone.)

WR - Albert Dukes (Could be 2 for 2 in not getting the Belle Glade kids back. I think it's almost a given we will not see Albert back. I would say it's at least a 90 percent chance on that. It's hard to win a defensive battle against a 12 year old girl in this type of case. If any of the accusations against him are true... he's done, he's toast, and he will never set foot on a football field again.)

WR - Roy Hall (All these talks about how he's been a dissapointment so far have some merit to them. He was hyped up to be like David Boston, and then damn near got demoted to 3rd string behind 4 receivers... Holmes, Ginn, Gonzales, and even Lyons at times at end of the year. Then there are talks of bulking him into a tight end. That will not happen now, as I think our depth at WR might be running low soon).

WR - Devin Jordan (Had a nasty injury this year. Will he ever come back and be the same? Another possible question here, and a possible casualty. Think Angelo Chattams and Darik Warnke too. They suffered nasty injuries too, and had to call it quits because of the position they played... wide receiver.)

WR - Andre Amos (A stud WR/CB out of high school, but insiders claimed that the staff might actually have been more excited about him as a taller cornerback with his 6'2" frame. That may not happen now. We may need him at receiver, but we'll see. Cornerback depth could have some issues of its own).

WR - Brian Hartline (See Jordan above. A nasty injury. Hopefully we'll continue to get good news on Hartline's progress though. Will he ever be the same though?)

WR- Bam Childress (A senior. We are losing him)

WR - John Hollins (A senior. We're losing him as well)

Based on all of this, I think we need to recruit 2 more receivers in this class. Carlos Thomas (WR/CB) would count as one. I honestly think we need to recruit Jessie Hester Jr. from Florida (6'0", sub 4.5 speed when healthy), and have him replace Albert Dukes. If Dukes somehow pulls it off and comes back, then we'll just have an extra receiver, and that may give Ginn and/or Amos (and/or Carlos Thomas) to play more at cornerback too.

Getting 2 more receivers and 1 more linebacker at this point, might actually be better than vice versa. Remember, we still have Freeman, Hoobler, Lukens, Perry, and Brandon Smith, to go with the linebacker recruits in this class for the future. Wide receiver depth is starting to look shaky now, and could get real shaky soon.
7 days before Posted 12-22-04 by Buster Avis.... I mean siva retsub

The 2006 depth chart at RB and WR could be SCARY...
WR - Santonio Holmes (if he stays for his senior season in 2006. Remember, the NFL doesn't draft many short 5'11" receivers in the 1st round. And Santonio usually doesn't run faster than a 4.45 on the track, he's faster in football pads).

WR - Ted Ginn Jr. (as a junior in 2006)
WR - Tony Gonzales (6'0", our version of Tim Dwight)
WR - Roy Hall (6'3" and strong body)
WR - Devon Lyons (6'4" or even 6'5" by then. Could be a Michael Jenkins type of receiver for us)
WR - Wesley Lyons (6'6", 4.5 speed, Devon's little bro. Wesley is projected to be a 4 star receiver in next year's class)
WR - Carlos Thomas (5'11", awesome receiver. Santonio Holmes or Terry Glenn like. Could play cornerback as well)
WR - Albert Dukes (6'1" or 6'2". High school coach says that upside and potential is greater than Holmes. Bill Conley said that if Dukes can shave a little time off of his 40, and get faster, that he could be SCARY good)
WR - Brian Hartline (6'3". Could be an oustanding big possession receiver for us. His brother being 6'6", could mean that Brian might grow another inch or two as well)
WR - Andre Amos (6'2". Could be another big play guy for us. Could also play cornerback as well)

Buster you are on drugs. Granted the Dukes situation occured after your first post, but nothing else has really changed other than that. How have we gone from "Scary" depth to "Low" depth at WR?

Actually, Buster has been banned. He is the same person who this summer pretended to be Mark Sanchez(MissionQB6). MissionQB6 was on here telling anyone who would listen that he was going to be a Buckeye very soon and how much he liked Ohio State. Unfortunately his IP address traced to Dayton, along with Grooove Theory, Buster Hairston and his other aliases. :shake:

I still don't understand what makes a guy like that tick. Being in your 30's and living in your parents' basement must be quite boring.

Well then siva retsub is fool on his own without buster to help. Only 7 days separate his two post and look at the difference in his WR depth evaluation.

Obviously, everyone and their mother know that Holmes and Ginn are 1/2 (or 2/1). Then with the last few games for Gonzalez, it seems to me that he's the popular choice for #3, but I haven't given up on Roy Hall yet. Maybe it's his Boston-esque build, but I think he is primed for a good year. Granted, it can't be a HUGE year with Ginn and Holmes around, but he's my choice for WR#3.

Why are people writing him off? He seemed to stop dropping the ball, and he made some big catches in the Purdue game (in a losing effort). Is there something going on that I don't know about?

Personally, I'd put our depth at WR as:

1. Holmes (based on experience)
2. Ginn
3. Hall
4. Gonzo
5. Lyons

Probably because Gonzo has never been a pass dropper, and because he's got serious speed. Hall is fairly slow in contrast to Gonzo (he's been run down from behind multiple times, we had this discussion in another thread I can't remember where... mili will help with pics once he sees this thread). There seems to be a lot of support for the rumor that Hall is moving to TE.

Gonzalez is quite comparable to Brandon Stokely (sp?). Whereas so far Hall has yet to emerge as a solid WR, or we would have run more fades to him in the end zone.

I think you answered your own question. IIRC it was in the hall to TE thread.
But yeah, I would have to say Gonzo 3 based off of speed.

Anyone can play...they wouldn't be at this level if they could not. However, a playmaker must have confidence. Gonzo exudes confidence right now and Hall is still seeking where he fits in on this team.

Holmes
Ginn
Gonzo
Lyons/Hall--Lyons ends up as the #4 by midseason...possibly 3 by scUM

since this is now becoming a WR question more tahn about hall...

what do people think about the chances of Jamario at WR? He seems fairly ready to play corner if we need him to, and I'll have to see it to believe that JO can match Ginn's athleticism (no doubt he's great but I'm withholding judgment).
