I was just told by someone in Coach Tressel's office that the football team would not be doing the Columbus City Center 'Fan Appreciation' event this year. :(
I figured it was going to be a long shot with finals this week, and all the awards shows so many of our players were going to be jetting around the country for, then a small Christmas break before heading West for the NC...it would have been a lot.
...and I'm sure the mall would have been an absolute 'war zone' of people (more-so than usual) cramming into lines, cutting, getting 'shut out' of getting any autographs, and causing more of what was experienced at the open Stadium Practice the beginning of the year. Something I'm sure they wouldn't want to deal with right before a national title shot.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait until after the Bowl Game when Troy and Co. get their agents and the 'autograph season' starts. :ohwell:
Side Note:
Last year, A.J. was getting (or I should say the Promoter was getting) $25 a pop. I'm going to guess that they'll want $35 - $50 an autograph for Troy, maybe $25 - $35 for Teddy (assuming he goes Pro), $15 - $20 a sig for Quinn, $20 - $25 for Pittman (if he comes out), and the rest will likely be $5 - $10 each, with groups appearing together and 'packages' being offered for an autograph of each (usually 4 or 5 guys appearing together)...Jay Richardson, Stan White Jr., Datish, Patterson, Downing, Roy Hall, Kerr, D'Andrea, Zwick, etc.
Assuming we do win another National Championship Jan. 8th, a 'premium' could be attached to any and all of those prices, adding $5 - $10 to the 'packages'.
...Just some speculation for those interested in meeting some of our Buckeye Heroes and spending a little cash to get a piece of memorabilia / history attached to one of the greatest recruiting classes in Ohio State history . As I find info on area Malls, etc. holding events, I will post the info in this thread, as I'm sure others will too.
P.S.
And I'm sure with this post it's safe to say: "Let the annual debate begin.", i.e...."Why would anyone stand in line for hours, and especially pay money to get a 20 / 21 year old kid to write their name on a piece of paper, etc.? How lame." :2004:
Well, let me start by stating my opinion: I look at a great picture of any kind (but obviously I'm highly interested in sports, Ohio State Football inparticular) as art. I decorate my walls with them. They remind me of great plays, games, seasons, and outstanding young men. And getting to meet them, shake their hands, congratulate them on their time at tOSU, and wish them well in the future adds to the memory that these picutes or other 'memorabilia' provide me. They are conversation pieces in my home, and sometimes just passing a signed picture of Mike Jenkins catching a game-winning TD at Purdue in 2002 makes me smile. I will tell my son about that play and that season (as well as many others) through out his life, and that I met these Buckeye greats; some by chance, others at 'free' OSU sponsored events, and some where I payed a little $$ while standing in a line with other Buckeye fans, talking about a season played and a season to come.
To some, it seems silly and lame. To me, it helps keep me occupied through a long Winter untill Spring practice starts back up, and decorates my home and work offices with what I consider to be some of the greatest 'art' around.
