Bruce Pearl (Auburn Head Coach, Ongoing Asshat)

I am not a Bruce Pearl fan, and one main reason is he's a shameless self-promoter, to an extent that is highly unusual at someone at the level he is at in his profession. He does things to promote himself & his team beyond reasonable bounds sometimes - does anyone else remember that, after OSU beat TN in the Sweet 16 back in 2007, he said OSU's win over the Vols in January gave the Buckeyes the confidence to go on their long win streak, even though it was just pure coincidence that OSU had just played at Wisconsin (aka a top-5 team that year when they were healthy) the prior game and the TN game was next, but he credited his team/program for giving the OSU players the confidence to embark on that run. Illinois fans hate him for what he did to them.

And what would that be? To lazy to check anything.

I don't expect people to take my opinion, but it is an extremely educated one in this case. I've been involved with Illinois HS basketball for 25 years. All I can say about Bruce Pearl is that if there is a bigger scumbag coaching college basketball, I haven't met him.

Knowing is involved it probably is true

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP)

Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl and an assistant have been contacted by the NCAA about possible recruiting violations, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The NCAA is looking into possible excessive contact with recruits, the person told The Associated Press on Thursday night on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, which was first reported by recruiting website Volquest.com. The NCAA has also talked with Vols associate head coach Tony Jones.

Tennessee spokesman Jimmy Stanton says the university has not received official notification from the NCAA of a formal investigation.

''We have not received a letter of inquiry from the NCAA,'' Stanton said. ''Upon receipt of such a letter, we would release it publicly.''

So Pearl loses $1.5 million in salary, has a half million dollar bonus deferred for 31 months, and can't do any off-campus recruiting for a year.

I also like this math from the University of Tennessee:

The number of official visits during the 2010-2011 recruiting calendar will be reduced 33%, from 12 to 9.

That's a 25% reduction, geniuses. But maybe the AD and the Chancellor, who both approved those penalties, can't handle grade school math.
