Bruce Hooley - Biggest Idiot now back on the radio in Cleveland

Why does a sports host need to be controversial? Can't they be somewhat objective and give the benefit of the doubt to the team they cover or are in the market? How long do you all think that someone with Hooley's attitude would last in Tuscaloosa or Austin being anti Tide/Horns?

Not fucking long.

I'd be pretty [censored]ed off if some lying sack of [Mark May] started posting accusations on sports message boards that I had killed someone driving drunk. Especially if I'd had someone die in a car I was driving in an accident caused by icy roads. Has to be a very painful reminder for Hooley.

Dumping on Hooley by lying about him like this, repeating baseless rumors (regardless of whether you regard the guy as a tool), is cowardly and vile. Posting a long stack of "tweets" isn't the proper response, but I think people are generally pointing fingers in the wrong direction here.

Ironic how a guy who makes his living off of smear campaigns is now whining about being the target of a smear campaign....

Am I the only one who thinks that Hooley would have jollies galore if Tressel had killed someone while committing an illegal act?

Hell, the guy's been a "piss in everyone's cheerios" tool since long before Tressel got the OSU job. Many sports"writers" are like that (see e.g., Mark Kiszla, Jay Mariotti, Skip Bayless, . . . ad infinitum). Honestly, I can't get worked up about him or any of the others because I just feel sorry for them: I can't imagine going through life never having a positive thought towards anyone. These guys want to turn anyone who's ever accomplished anything into a "has been" because they are all "never weres".

So basically his whole career is cowardly and vile.

Maybe the person that started the rumor was just trying to get ratings.

Don't know that it was a lie: The post, as cited here, says only that the family of the victim is convinced that he was drunk, not that he was . . . and it didn't seem like the poster researched it, but instead has personal knowledge of what the family thinks.

Stating untruths is wrong, but I'm with LJB here. If Hooley wants to be a public figure who gets attention and gets paid by bringing negative attention to public figures (mostly JT and others in the tOSU athletic program), he's fair game for having any dirty laundry aired or skeletons brought out of his closet. But it should be done fairly and accurately.

He's in the kitchen, so he needs to be able to handle some heat.

One summer I had nothing much to do at work other than listen to the radio. They were okay over the summer (this was before they started the "my guy" crap, what is up with that?) but once football season started I had to turn them off.

It' better than the "What's crackin'!?" bit they tried a few years ago. They suck so hard and so does Hooley. I was pumped when The Fan came to FM, but I would rather not listen to it anymore. At least until Spielman comes back.

Not [censored]ing long.

Finebaum's made himself a millionaire based on shitting on Auburn and Bama, especially when they are down.
Gotta admire his nads. A UT grad moves to Birmingham and immediately lights fire to the two in-state programs and he's been doing it for 10+ years.

I remember it vividly. Tom Friend came on the air and said that he had information that JT personally called clarett's family and physically threatened them if Maurice didn't keep quiet.

Damon Bruce basically called him out on it and asked what evidence he had? Friend would not respond. Bruce said something along the lines of "did this come from Mr. such and such as well?" and told him that he can't toss out accusations like that without any real proof. Friend stammered around for a little bit, then tried to move on to something else.

Damon Bruce was gone shortly thereafter.

They fired him for that?? Finally, someone associated with ESPN actually had some common sense and wanted an accurate, well-researched claim during that mess...what a little bitch that Friend was.

The Torg is from Minnesota/Arizona, Common Man is from Chicago, and as has been documented, Hooley has issues regardless of where he is from.

It's no wonder they are cynical little douchebags 99% of the time when it comes to Ohio State athletics. Hey 97.1, fucking hire someone who is actually a fan of the sports teams they cover and maybe the quality of your programing will improve.

I thought Rothman and Demetrious Stanley's show was pretty good when I've had a chance to listen

Hooley on Finebaum's Show - March 9, 2011

Some gems from Hooley's interview:

Tressel is "very artful in verbal double reverses."

Tressel has "a prolonged sustained pattern of NCAA malfeasance."

Tressel has done a "masterful job of crafting his reputation as the pantheon [sic] of all virtue."

Tressel is "a liar and a cheater" and the recent "dramatic and egregious violations of NCAA rules" don't "leave much on the table in terms of integrity and high moral character."

Implies that Tressel is under investigation by the FBI and the IRS!

Hooley says of himself: "Integrity mean more to me than winning." Well, Bruce, the next time you win something, then please let us know....
