Gatorubet;1909335; said:That could not be any farther from the truth. Your description of the Hooley article (if it is the one I read) grossly misrepresents both the tone and content of the story, and of the content in the article linked in that story.
IMO, of course.
I see it as sort of spot-on describing the attitudes of many followers of Coach Tressel. Nothing in it is anything different than was contained in the main thread on Coach Tressel's suspension, or in the "I stand with" thread.
If anything, Hooley makes Jack come off as your average fan, not knowing the facts in any great detail, but instead relying on his assessment of Coach Tressel as a great teacher of young men, and an honest man. Reporting that view is hardly negative, nor is calling The Golden Bear the "Greatest Golfer who ever lived", or saying that Jack does not get well deserved thanks for essentially creating Dublin (as a populated suburb via his decision to put Muirfield Village there). None of that is "ripping".
He (Hooley) may be a tool, but that article is so tepid as an attack vehicle that any non-Buckeye fan would see it as more of a defense, than an attack, of Tress. The only thing of concern would be Jack's belief that others at tOSU knew about tatgate, and that Tress was taking the hit for the team, as it were. Many wonder it that is not so here. Pointing out that - if true - that would make Tress not truthful (since Tress has signed on in the facts statement of the letter to the NCAA that nobody else but he knew) - is hardly "ripping".

As I read it, it felt like damage control - like he was trying to "walk back" and make up with Buckeye Nation for his prior attacks.Bucklion;1909337; said:now, suggesting it might not be genuine (with Hooley the response might be "duh") is valid
Steve19;1909409; said:Look, I don't know who Hooley is. He could be Alan for his similar accomplishments, so far as I know.
However. when a baboon crawls up a tree, one is certain to see his ugly side. Of course, he doesn't attack Jack in his FoxSports Ohio article. Few things would be more stupid in Columbus. So, he casts lots of aspersions about how hard it is to imagine that Jack knows what he is talking about. As a serious donor to Ohio State, Jack may well know more than he lets on. Hooley has no idea.
So, what I find strange is that people read crap by an obvious hack and sensationalist, when the best he can write is that he has trouble imagining that Jack has an informed opinion.
Jack is wrong, in Hooley's eyes, because he supports Tressel based on supposedly unfounded opinions.
Yet, people are supposed to read Hooley's admittedly unfounded opinions about Jack and how well informed Jack is about Tressel, simply because Hooley is opposed to Tressel.
Journalism, Hooley! Do you speak it?
