Derrick Johnson weighed in at 242 at the combine.

Still think he's too light, Thump? Seems like he can put on weight pretty quickly.

Demarcus Ware measured in at 6'4", 251 and ran a 4.55...I wonder if he'll be there in the second round

Assuming no more trades, this is how I would like to see the draft pan out for Cleveland. KEY: BEST CASE, MOST LIKELY, BACKUP OPTIONS

Keep in mind that the green would be my PERFECT draft (It is very unlikely). If any of those picks change, the remaining picks could change based on need and a "Perfect" choice may be passed over because the position was covered earlier...that is why I left multiple backup options.

FIRST ROUND
D. Johnson, LB, Texas
D. Johnson, LB, Texas
A. Rolle, CB, Miami
A. Jones, CB, WVU
A. Barron, OT, FSU

SECOND ROUND
C. Rogers, CB, Auburn
E. Brown, OG, Virginia
C. Frye, QB, Akron
B. Poole, S, Oklahoma
B. Browner, CB, Oregon State

THIRD ROUND
J. Campbell, QB, Auburn
A. Perkins, CB, Oklahoma
M. Munoz, OT, Tennessee
F. Washington, CB, Nebraska
C. Kemoeatu, OG, Utah

FOURTH ROUND (FIRST PICK)
R. Wallace, LB, Temple
J. Bullocks, S, Nebraska
R. Fields, DT, Miss. St.
J. Butler, S, G. Tech
J. Parquet, OL, S. Miss

FOURTH ROUND (SECOND PICK)
J. Brimmer, S, UNLV
W. Reyes, RB, Syracuse
J. Goddard, LB, Marshall
L. Brackins, WR, Pearl River CC
D. Fox, S, THE Ohio State University

FIFTH ROUND
R. Willis, OT, FSU
J. Goddard, LB, Marshall
D. Greene, QB, Georgia
B. Jacobs, CB, Southern Ill
J. Rosegreen, S, Auburn

SIXTH ROUND
J. Davis, DE, Va. Tech
R. Riddle, DE, Cal

D. Colquitt, P, Tennessee
C. Owens, WR, Hawaii
C. Davis, DE, FSU

SEVENTH ROUND
C. Owens, WR, Hawaii
J. White, QB, Oklahoma

G. Guidugli, QB, Cincinnati
C. Myers, OG, Miami
A. Williams, CB, Oregon

I've been looking at the draft board for awhile now. This year more than ever there doesn't seem to be any top talent, but the draft is DEEP in late first round quality talent (Especially at cornerback and on the Offensive Line).

My idea is that the Browns should try to get the most out of their top pick as they can, but to GET RID OF IT! I think, realistically we could give our #1 and the #4 we got from the Broncos in exchange for a late #1 and a late #2 or #3. I would take that deal in a heartbeat for these reasons:

1. The top teams in the draft will be grossly overpaying players. Player agents don't adjust their clients demand based on talent...they base it on the precident of salary for the same pick last year (much more top heavy draft). The players always demand more than the previous year and the top 10 picks in this draft are looking for salary cap eating players without the talent to match.

2. The draft is deep in most of the Browns need positions. We need a great cover corner, an Offensive Guard and Tackle, one or two Linebackers that fit the 3-4, a young project for Defensive (Nose) Tackle, a QB and a Safety. IF this scenario plays out like I stated above...the Browns would make out like bandits.

I would almost GIVE AWAY the top pick just to get rid of the salary headache.

Here is my draft with the trade I talked about above (I'm assuming a trade with the Packers because they'd LOVE to have Johnson.)...

I am assuming the Browns get Brian Russell in free agency along with Sean Jones return from enjury (therefore no safety is picked).

1. C. Rogers, CB, Auburn
2. E. Brown, OG, Virginia
2. J. Campbell, QB, Auburn
3. M. Munoz, OT, Tennessee
4. R. Wallace, LB, Temple
5. R. Fields, DT, Miss. State
6. C. Owens, WR, Hawaii
7. A. Williams, CB, Oregon

Just for fun, I bolded two of my favorite players in the entire draft. Rogers because he will be the best corner to come out by the end of his career...and Wallace because he fits the 3-4 PERFECTLY!

Oiler - The chance for a trade down is slim to none. While it would be great to not pay the #3 pick price, not many other teams would want to either. So to hope for a trade down or think of trade down scenerios is a healthy case of masturbation.

Now for the pick, it has to be defense. I love Johnson with #3 at 244lbs he should be the key linebacker needed for the switch to the 3-4. If not since we just lost Henry and I don't see any free agent corners coming into town I can also see either Pac-Man or Rolle.

I don't like either QB and we have too many other needs than picking a RB. I actually do not like either of the top WRs. Mike Williams has Keyshawn Johnson written all over him. You do not pick possession receivers at #3 and Edwards drops way too many easy passes for my liking.

actually the tradedown liklihood is higher than you think. checkout the Charger's scout page. they are very interested in giving up their 2 1st round picks for cleveland's #3. There has also been some talk about zona and tennessee also inquiring. a tradedown is quite possible.

Thats exactly what I hope they do, if they can trade down and get 2 #1 picks, that would be awesome.
We just have so many holes to fill.

While I would love a trade down, especially for 2 first rounders, i dont see it happening because there aren't really any top players in this draft...

I have also heard that miami wants to trade away their pick which doesn't help us

This being said I will be mad if the browns pick anyone other than Johnson at #3

all it takes is for one team to fall in love with one player, and a trade down is easy. miami wanting to trade down doesnt hurt cleveland unless the only teams looking to trade up want cedric benson. the rumor is that SD love edwards and wants to trade up. even if they dont, norm chow wants mike williams in the worst way. if SD would trade up, chicago will likely take williams and tennesee is screwed. It's all about playing the game.

and if cleveland doesnt trade down, and doesnt trade william green, then derrick johnson is a very likely pick. however, on the radio this morning in columbus there was a rumor that cleveland may be trading the #3 pick to seattle for shaun alexander and something else.

Thanks for the rumor although I'm not sure if I would want to make that trade...

About SD, what could we get in return value if they did trade up with us?

You'd be starting off with the #12 and #28 picks

I don't know about this year (except don't take Johnson at 3), but I want the Browns to take Carpenter next year for their 3-4 defense.
Interesting statement, but why not take Johnson? He has looked better than any, we already have two young QB's that could fight it out for franchise QB, Barron isn't good enough for the #3 pick, and we might not trade down from #3... that being said, who else would you take?

and who would those 2 young QB's be? McCown isn't a franchise guy..who else?

at this point, the guys that could fill needs that are worth the #3 are:
Rodgers
Smith
D. Johnson

It will most likely be one of those guys unless others like Dan Cody, Shawn Merriman, Rolle, Pac-Man, Thomas Davis, Mike Williams move up the charts to be worth that pick.

My take on DJ is that he is a good lb and i dont like to throw this word around alot but i think he is overrated. Pay attention to this next part. His TACKLING is crappy, he tackles like a CB with wimpy arm tackles. In the pros, that just doesnt cut it and im afraid he will be a bad choice if we were to waste our #1 on him and he would go down in the long history of our bad first round picks. Dont get me wrong, he is still a good lb, just not worth our first rounder that high. Example is Courtney Brown. He is good and im not mad that we have him but anyone who thinks he is worth the pick we wasted on him in that draft is crazy. Grab the sure talent and dont be afraid to miss out on someone. So what if we dont pick him up and he is taken by someone else and has some success, you cant let fear of losing someone later, affect you taking somebody to high just not to lose him.

The only game I saw Johnson play was the Rose Bowl and I was not impressed. It seemed like michigan ran right at him and he did not do well. If he cannot handle that in college how is he going to handle it when he has the likes of Jamal Lewis and Bettis coming at him?

Mainly, I like to reserve judgment until closer to draft time because the needs of the team change based on Free Agency. This is especially true with a team like the Browns who have so many needs.

At this point I would be looking at CB. Rolle or PacMan out of WV. I would love to drop down and pick up some more picks, but I don't think that is realistic.

The best draft this team could make is not trading the second round pick to move up one spot to take a player the team in front of you wasn't even going to take.
