Yes, there is something wrong with cooking a puppy that they duct taped it's paws together and it's mouth shut and started cooking it while it was still alive.

Perhaps they should be duct taped and cooked in an oven, if they're eaten afterwards is it ok?

I would venture a thought that they got the 10 years for the burglary, not cooking the dog. There is nothing wrong with cooking a dog as long as you eat it. Animal cruelty doesn't carry a ten year sentence anyway. But I do agree that the kid thing was a tad overboard.

the problem is that they never intended to eat the puppy.

That blows away the "it's ok if they would've eaten it" response.
