Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

On the one hand, what's he supposed to say? He can't just go out there and [Mark May] on his quarterbacks to the press by telling the truth. I certainly wouldn't want Urban Meyer saying he'd trade one of our position groups for a different set of players. Doesn't matter if it's true or not - it's not good for the program to do that so I understand to an extent why Kelly said what he did. His worst sin isn't his actual answer, it's that he gave one at all.

On the other hand, gimme a break. Ohio State's quarterbacks play school better, let alone football.
No his worst sin is mentioning another team by name, then saying shit that makes him sound like a brainless herring sperm sniffer. Just say "I like our talent and experience at QB and I love our depth" and no one bats an eyelash.

The depth of blatant stupidity in his statement is mind-boggling.

Golson
256-427-14 (60.0%), 3,445 yards, 29 TDs, 143.58 rating (#30)
114 carries, 283 yards (2.48 ypc), 8 TDs
3,728 yards, 37 TDs total offense

Barrett
203-314-10 (64.6%), 2,834 yards, 34 TDs, 169.83 rating (#2)
171 carries, 938 yards (5.49 ypc), 11 TDs
3,772 yards, 45 TDs total offense

Barrett is ahead of Golson is every single stat except passing yardage. As for the "second" QBs, I'm not even going to bother with statistically comparing their guy who can barely find his fucking way to the stadium to our guy who beat the three Heisman finalists in successive games and won the B1G, Sugar Bowl, and national titles.

And we probably don't have to include our other backup QB who was a top 5 Heisman finalist and Cnference POY before he got hurt for the season

The problem like @Bucklion stated is he called OSU out by name, and he wasn't even asked to make the comparison, he made the comparison like an idiot and in doing so in a sense he put an even larger target on the backs of his QBs. And his worst sin is the actual answer, all he had to say was I feel confident about my QBs and leave it at that. He put his foot entirely into his mouth by comparing his starting QB who can't even go a game without turning the ball over or being competent as a passer or a student and his backup who is poor version of our QBs. Kelly is turning himself and his team more into a sideshow, and the fact that they shit the bed in the NC makes his act that much more laughable.

FIFY. Brian Kelly would be banned from our forums weekly for his Golson bashing in his press conferences.

edit: if he said such things about Buckeyes. If he simply repeated his quotes verbatim about ND, we'd like the crap out of them.

He'd have you up in a scissor lift so quick it would make your head spin (literally).

Yeah, I was going to post his comment yesterday in the 2015-2016 OSU QB thread for a laugh, but I figured someone would get to it eventually lol. You're right, no coach is going to compare his guys to another program's guys and say the other program has the better players. It probably would have been better if he just said "I like our guys" and left it at that. He made a point to clarify that later, but by then it was too late. He gave plenty of ammo to the reporters who could flash the quote in their headlines.

I've never been that high on Golson, and I'm not a fan of the way he conducts himself on the sidelines. I'm surprised he still has problems holding onto the ball too given the fact the coaches made it a point to focus on the issue before and during the season last year. I think Zaire is a much better leader, more vocal, and I like the passion he plays with. I'm hoping Zaire gets the start or maybe gets used in a Chris Leak/Tim Tebow fashion, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Spring reports say Zaire has been inconsistent while Golson has been money in practice, but I want to say they said the same thing last year. I think Zaire just rises to the occasion in games, while Golson has struggled to learn how to rebound as he's never had to face true adversity in football going back to high school.

I think he had a little adversity in that one game against Alabama a few years back... And the fact that he was dumb enough to compare his QB personnel to any team, let alone and the defending NCs shows sheer stupidity. You're a HC of one of the most storied CFB programs in the nation you should know any quote you say will become fodder for teams and opposing fans

Yeah, the Alabama game was certainly vicious, but Golson was probably the lone bright spot on offense during that game. He passed the ball fairly well and didn't appear overwhelmed. It was the rest of the offense that was pretty anemic. The normally strong run game was held to 39 yards rushing and the OL was dominated. Golson was never in danger of getting replaced in that game though. It was a tough loss, but I think last season was the first time Golson has really had to deal with adversity going back to high school. He did very well there and dominated competition. I don't think he's ever had to be benched before like he was against USC, and I wonder how well he processed that experience. He sat on the bench away from the team like he was a separate entity. I'm not sure he's the leader the team needs, I'd like to see Zaire get his shot. Zaire is more vocal and passionate, and the team responded better to him in the USC game as well as against LSU. I just think it's a gamble to assume Golson will clean up the turnovers. If he starts the season and flounders, then all he's done is taken reps away from Zaire. At worst I'd like to see them go dual QBs, like using Zaire in the redzone and Golson mostly in passing situations, but Golson seems to be a practice warrior that's consistent during the week and inconsistent on Saturday...Zaire seems to be the opposite.
