Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

An article, ironically by a Dick named Weiss from NY Daily News on challenges faced by Kelly at NotYer Dame ...

New Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly's 'dream' could become nightmare if he doesn't win big

The Irish faithful expect the 48-year-old Kelly, the son of an alderman who seriously considered entering politics when he graduated from tiny Assumption College in Worcester, to produce similar landslide results in South Bend. But he will face skepticism because the school - which had an initial list of 18 candidates - could not lure a bigger name such as Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer.
They will not be satisfied with another 6-6 season like the one Notre Dame suffered through this fall. And they will expect 10 or more wins within three years.
"We don't have a five-year plan," Kelly said. "We have a five-minute plan and we'll start to work on it immediately. As for timetables, I don't want to get into that, but I expect our young men to play at a high level immediately."

Five minutes? Wow - now that is a pretty aggressive schedule for program improvement.

The dream will become a nightmare unless he wins big - just ask Charlie Weis, Ty Willingham and Bob Davie.
They are all tragic footnotes in Notre Dame football lore.

When Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick introduced Kelly, he didn't bother to present him with a Notre Dame game jersey with a No. 1 on it, but instead a medal of the Virgin Mary.
"After team Mass, every player gets a medal of a saint to take with them," Swarbrick said. "We're giving you a medal of the lady who the university is named after."
Sometimes, it helps to have some divine intervention when you're starting a crusade.

Channel 5 news here in Cincy reported this morning that Kelly hired a PR firm to begin lobying for the ND job the monday after NoD lost to Navy.

wow.

It wouldn't surprise me. He didn't do a very good acting job in hiding his interest/excitement in the ND job during his press conference from before the Pitt game.

I just don't understand Cincy fans. They weren't too worried when Kelly left CMU to coach their team in a bowl game. Why are they so upset because Kelly wants to coach Notre Dame in their bowl game?

Oh, wait...

Sometimes Kelly pronounces it 'No-turr Dame', and other times he uses 'No-TRUH Dame', which for some reason I find rather annoying.
Either pronounce it No-tur Dame or No-Truh Dahm... use 'merican English or use French don't use Frenglish. Fucking cheeseburger part II, someone bring on the in-and-out burger.

Your point? I believe that Kelly has said that the head coaching position at Notre Dame is his dream job. Why shouldn't he go after it? Because he's afraid of upsetting the fragile egos of UC fans?

Furthermore, he led UC to a 12-0 regular season record, so I don't think UC suffered at all from Kelly's mid-season efforts (if there were any) to get the ND job. I'm just not sure what you have to complain about here.

I would think that the point remains that coaches preach team loyalty, no I in TEAM, think team before me/I, no individual is above the team, no individual's goals should be at the expense of the team.

I don't blame Kelly for wanting the ND job and I don't blame ND for wanting Kelly, but you finish what you start.

If for some unimaginable reason OSU canned Tressel and hired a bowl bound coach I'd hope they would have the integrity to honor his commitments to his current college and I hope they'd chose someone who wanted to meet those commitments.

I totally disagree with that.
NDs only responsibility is to ND, and it would be the exact same for tOSU.

No problem. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander. At the end of each season let every kid chose if he wants to remain at the same school or move on to a program that he thinks will help him.

I really don't care about UC or Notre Dame being successful (I root for the meteor when ND plays tsun) but if I were UC, once Kelly was announced was the ND coach I would want him gone. I would not want him sticking around.
