I agree with you, but it's a numbers game. We don't have any defensive depth at all. MI needs players, we started 7 freshmen last year, who is going to back them up.
Not the kids you're taking this year. They all need to RS, and if they see the field, the results will basically mirror the past two. If you wait til next year, get some better kids with better/surer long range prospects that can come in and contribute immediately, you get the same results with more talent. Taking kids that need redshirts and may never be more than depth kids anyway is setting yourself up behind the eightball. I know it's a numbers game, but those numbers can be fudged more efficiently than just "plugging holes"...which appears to be what he's doing.

Further, even Mr. "sunshine and lollipops" tom beaver is being extremely low key about this flurry of commitments. He's usually out in front leading the charge that they're "cleaning up". Of course, he may still be but hurt that scUM will not be the new Oregon anymore.

We would RS them, but there is no one else, SOB

MI had 23 Scholarship defensive players when Carr left. MI biggest mistake was hiring an offensive minded coach who reloaded the offense first. Now MI did redshirt a pile of defensive guys last class, but I have little faith in the talent Greg Robinson recruited.

We have more WR then any team in CFB I bet, LOL It's crazy

Actually, he was a four-star: Scout - 2007 Ohio State. It doesn't change the fact that nearly all of your commits are ranked considerably low in their respective positions. Hardly a "nice" class...

ESPN/Rivals had him at 3*

To me the kids a 5, he's that damn good and my point. It's a nice class from what we had 3 weeks ago is all I am saying, I love how you guys just make [Mark May] up, LOL

Actually, you have a ton of DB coming back next year:

CB
Avery- SO
Floyd- RS JR
Anderson- RS SR
Talbott- SO
Christian- SO
Backey- RS SO

S
M. Robinson- SO
C. Gordon-RS SO
Woolfolk- RS SR
Furman- RS FR
Hawthorne- JR
C. Johnson- SO
T. Gordon- RS SO
Vinopal- SO
Simmons- RS JR
Van Slyke- RS SR
Kovacs- RS JR

...and that doesn't include the guys I ommitted because I've never heard of them (walk ons). That's six corners and 11 safeties...including many underclassmen. There's no reason to play any of the kids they've taken this year. With that many underclassmen, they may even have the luxury of RS most of the myriad better kids they could pull next year in 2012. The DE/TE kid from Ohio won't see the field this year either and there are many better options just in Ohio next year that tOSU won't be able to fit.

You win with talent (for the most part). Taking lesser kids this year just to fill scholorships who aren't gonna contribute early in their careers instead of much better options next year is going to hurt down the line.

If you want to use an abbreviation, type tOSU on this board.

Pardon me Mr. Administrator, but germ is my boy.
I taught him to say "that school in Ohio" for a reason, you know.
I want my fans to engage in civil discourse, we don't resort to cursing on this forum.
Hate to prick your elite and lofty status on this forum, but if it was good enough for Woody to avoid cursing by calling us the state up north, you know, we in kind will not disrespect your fine institution either.:wink2:

MVP this year was Dane Sanzenbacher

He was a 3 star

Taurian Washington was a 4 * that same class, who is this dude?

It's about developing talent you have, IMO Dane will be one of the steals out of this draft. I think he's that good.
The occasional under the radar kid who becomes a great player is fine. You can't recruit an entire class of under the radar guys and hope to win big in a BCS conference. What are the elite programs in college football recently? Probably Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Florida, USC, LSU and Oklahoma in no particular order. Look at the recruiting rankings. Those schools aren't loading up on 3-star guys, they're taking mostly four and five stars with a handful of 3-stars. If you don't recruit at an elite level, you're not going to be an elite program.
