Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

Hoke has added 6 commits to the class already, most of us thought this class was going to be horrible. It appears Hoke and his staff may pull a top 25 out this class with only 3 weeks work.

Not bad at all

Hoke was hired Jan 11. Michigan has nine, not six, kids who have committed since then. Aside from two decent LBs (#13 OLB Antonio Poole and #12 MLB Kellen Jones), he has gotten commitments from the following:

#20 CB Blake Countess
#39 QB Russell Bellomy
#45 OT Tony Posada
#49 CB Raymon Taylor
#63 TE Keith Heitzman
#104 CB Tamani Carter
Unranked K Matt Wile

One barely in the top 20 in his position, and the other six #39 or worse. Thinking that classes like this are "Not bad at all" is precisely why Michigan will continue to underachieve...

If one uses a bit of commen sense and looks at it from the guy has had two weeks to get recruits. If he was coach from the entire year, I would agree with you.

He has got 6 new commits and 3 to re-commit after MI fired RR.

Six new commits

as far as i'm concerned, the whole Rich Rod era didn't exist......doesn't count.....

What about the last 6 of the Carr era?

I am not fan of the ranking system, to me it's more about coaching. TSIO is great year after year becasue of great coaching. TCU I bet does not have to many 4 or 5 * kids, they beat a very good Wis team. Who pretty much handled everyone in the Big Ten but MSU.

Noboady has more talent then Texas, LSU, USC and Florida, Tressel can win without all that talent year after year.

I am very interested to see what happens with MI new DC and how the defense plays next year.

"Commen" sense? OK. :roll1:

Again, it's not the number but the quality...and you act if these six "new" commits weren't ever considering Michigan until Hoke was hired.

Where did I state they above? Like to use a bit of conjecture do we?

I figured we would get a class of 10 maybe 12. He has a nice class coming together, that is all I am saying.

Poole is a good get and probably would have committed much earlier had rr had enough sense to show him some love. Smart move on Hoke's part to get after him, but hardly a major coup. The kid wanted to be blue all along. He's also done a nice job sureing up some commitments from guys like Posada and Countess, but again, these guys were already blue. He just had to resell them somewhat. The rest of the guy's they've snagged are bottom rung recruits that would come to scUM just on name value alone...regardless of the coach. My IMO, he should have banked those sholarships for next years class which looks much, much deeper in the midwest than this one. Those are the kind of things that will hurt them down the line. I get the QB because they only have two presently on scholarship (one injury prone), but the low level DBs and the DE/TE kid from Ohio are major reaches. All the scUM fans crowing about what a fantastic job he's done are just looking for some kool-aid to drink. It certainly isn't any major upgrade from what rr was doing.

I think he's done a nice job of keeping things from completely falling apart, but has made a couple mistakes by taking kids that would never sniff tOSU's practice squad. You comptete with tOSU by matching them in recruiting, not by taking warm bodies. He deserves a pass for this year. We'll really see how he does next year.
