Given Hoke's late start and the dragged out termination of RR, sounds to me like Hoke is doing a pretty reasonable job getting in the middling recruits. And while there is an argument that he should bank some schollies for next year, I suspect they will still have a decent class through attrition and injuries. Hell, most of us expect some of the receiver types to transfer out. I guess my point is I don't think this class is representative of TSUN's longer term expectations.
Which, once again, is precisely why I think it's a bit foolish taking so much "marginal" talent this year.MONTbigBuck;1865148; said:Saw over on MGOblog recently that UM only will have 12seniors graduating from next years squad. It is a young roster. Even with some attrition they are looking at a small class next year. Perhaps their staff hasn't had much time to look ahead at '12 recruiting, but it looks like a year at this point where there are more good players at rb, de, safety, and lb just in Ohio than what OSU will have room for. There likely are going to be alot of top end football players next year that UM could sign without having to win a head to head battle with OSU. Next year looks like an abnormal opportunity(low OSU schollies as well) for UM to begin to right the ship so to speak in recruiting.
Well, again, you try to point to JT's success with 3* guys as an example of what "could" happen with Hoke. Hoke has no track record of that kind of success. Could he? Sure. But that doesn't make him taking a boat load of those kinds of guys smart just because it's worked in Columbus. Incidently, Tressel has landed a much larger amount of higher rated guys and had success with them as well. Peppering your class with a few of them is one thing, making them a majority of your class is not setting yourself up for long term success.germ;1865145; said:
Ugh. You continue to miss my point. I know that nobody knows how these kids will turn out. What I'm saying is, why roll the dice on projects when he can use several of these schollies on a very deep class next year? He'll have more time to put in the work and tOSU is working with limited spots available. Ohio is LOADED next year, and tOSU isn't gonna be able to take them all. What's better, a 3* project DE that's gonna have to redshirt next year anyway, or a high 4* that could contribute immediately in 2012? A 3* project CB that will have to redshirt anyway next year, or a 4* CB from 2012 that might be able to contribute immediately. It's like talking to a wall...germ;1865161; said:You me and the man on the moon does not know how these recruits will turn out. Peer guessing on your part. Three years ago I said you guys would have another NC and a hesiman winner after you got TP. I was wrong.

Like I've said, I understand he's working with a limited timeframe right now. But, if he was smart IMO, he'd bank some of those spots for next year when he can get some footing and go after higher rated kids.
germ;1865166; said:He's turn 2 star kids into NFL talent. Tressel had not turn any kids into NFL talent until he got to his current job.
The point is not tressel can do so hoke can. The point is to be a great coach one needs to know how do develope talent. There are very few coaches who can IMO.
Hoke got us another recruit today

Yes. Yes, you are. Each time I make my point, you keep bringing up that Jim Tressel has had success with 3* kids and, because of that, Hoke can to. Besides just being myopic, that's not what I'm trying to convey. Read and comprehend.germ;1865168; said:I am not missing the point at all. I have enjoyed this thread.
