Apparently, according to a thread on Stadium and Main, virtually noone on the staff was aware of the hit. At least, not those staffers who've been interviewed today, I guess.

Serious question: with the way he bumbles and stumbles and murmurs through the media's questions, how the fuck did he go through the interview process, leaving them with a real strong this-is-our-guy feeling?
And if he, by comparison, interviews well, I'd love to hear what the also-rans sounded like......
So does the pizza budget come out of his salary, or is in addition to his salary? This is a big deal.He was probably interviewed for an hour. Hoke probably spent 30 minutes of that naming every single type of pizza on the Domino's menu along with toppings and side items. He probably brought in 10 boxes of pizza to eat while he interviewed. He spent another 20 minutes on how he could coach without a headset. The last 10 minutes he talked about having pizza parties after every win. This obviously blew away Brandon and lead Hoke to have a salary of 4 million a year. It would have only been 3 million, but the pizza parties upped the ante.
I agree with you that "shaken up" is a vague phrase. So if you are ignoring that phrase, and pain has nothing to do with it, I guess you are retracting your statement made earlier, in response to a comment I made to NFBuck, that it is standard operating procedure to pull a player after he suffers a nasty hit and is in obvious pain or otherwise shaken up.

After taking a direct helmet-to-the-chin hit, he may have been trying to tough it out, telling the sidelines to leave him in, but at least one of his teammates on the field were calling for the training staff to at least come out to take a look at him.
Seem like they might be a little more reliable in that situation......

If U-M terminates Hoke with cause (NCAA violations, gross misconduct, etc.), it will not owe him a buyout fee.
Gross misconduct is behavior, on the part of an employee, which is so bad that it destroys the employer/employee relationship, and merits instant dismissal without notice or pay in lieu of notice.
