Quinn gets past free fall in draft

But Browns rookie says he'll be disappointed if not in starting lineup

By Andrew Abramson

Cox News Service

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. - What could have been a dream scenario for Miami Dolphins fans became nothing more than a tease.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, surrounded by South Florida media on Tuesday, talked about how he'd be disappointed if he couldn't crack the starting lineup as a rookie.
But Quinn, in town for the NFL's rookie symposium at PGA National, wore a shirt for the Browns, not the Dolphins. He said he was stunned when Miami passed over him and instead drafted Ohio State receiver Ted Ginn Jr. with the ninth pick in the NFL Draft.

Exactly what I was saying earlier. I wish more rookie contracts would be incentive based.

I wish rookie contracts were set up like the NBA rookie contracts, where the money is slotted to each pick. Then a bunch of unproven rookies don't get huge contracts till they actually prove themselves.

All this talk of where Quinn should have gone in the draft and all that other BS really means nothing now.....everyone in the NFL must earn their spot....Quinn will get the opportunity to win the QB job. With who the Browns have right now.....I am betting he starts this year. I am not sold on Frye or the other back-up.

Quite possibly.. but supposedly frye is "game-day" player (:slappy: not last year, but in his defense he will have a much much better line and should have a much better ground game to help keep them honest) and Derek Anderson has the best arm and it is apperantly even more obvious with the new offense.. we'll see how pre-season goes but if today was game 1, i think the depth chart would be:
1.) DA
2.) CF
3.) BQ

All reports are that brady isn't ready yet, hold out wont help his bid either

I think Charlie will start unless he completely plays like shit in the preseason. Anderson has a cannon arm, but does not perform as well in game situations, that will cause him to be holding the clip board. I am just not sure it will be in Cleveland. I have a feeling that whoever does not start, either CF or DA, the Browns will attempt to either trade one of them or release one of them. I can't see them putting Brady at 3rd String. Just my opinion.

I agree he wont be thrid string, if he is it wont be for long. dorsey makes a fine 3rd stringer, no reason to keep them all if you can get some value for CF or DA..

"Anderson has a cannon arm, but does not perform as well in game situations"

See this I don't understand.. if he's out preforming people in practice he deserves a shot.. savage brought him over from the ravens and he has the best arm with a vertical passing game that chud is bringing to town.

But his interception ratio in games last year was horrendous

I like frye, i like anderson, i do not like brady. i think none of them are starting qb's in the nfl.. im not sold on any of them yet, we'll have to sit tight until preseason i guess :(

personally, i think the browns will try to trade charlie but they wont do it until after the season. Football trades are very unlikely during preseason/season.

I think Anderson should get the nod, with charlie being #2 and Quinn being 3rd. Put Dorsey on the practice squad until next season then he can be #3.

But the worst thing about the browns QB situation is that you usually want your "QB of the Future", like Quinn is supposed to be, to be learning from a vet. Not a guy that has only played in 5 NFL games (DA) or 20 games (CF).

imo i think Quinn should sit for 2 seasons. Let him watch either DA or CF this year and then trade one or both of them for a decent NFL Starting QB that has been in the league for a few years so he can learn from a true vet.

That will also give the line time to gel together.

Frye is not even close to being a starting QB in the NFL, he is all they have. He is the starter by default in my opinion.
I agree but I am willing to cut him some slack and let him play behind a line and see what happens..

I would say the 2006 browns line and running are not close to being NFL starters, frye didn't show much to get excited about but if he somehow holds onto the job i'll be rooting for him
