Bracketology and Selection Sunday Discussion

Greetings from New Rochelle, I see you guys are not showing the Gaels much love. A little about the Gaels. We try to run as much as possible and go as far as our 3pt shooting. We start a BCS level backcourt with Momo Jones and Sean Armand. If they are shooting well we can give teams fits. For a mid major we actually have quite a few BCS level recruits who transferred in but we are playing a little short due to losing a 6'9'' center and 6'5'' wing player to injury and mid season transfer. Never know which Iona team will show up. Last years NCAA game against BYU is proof of that, I am sure you all remember we had a 25 pt lead in the first half and fell flat in the 2nd half and blew the game. We were hoping to be placed in Philly and take our chances with Georgetown but instead got a real bad break by playing what amounts to a road game against OSU. Anyway hoping for a good game. Going back to our Valvano days all we can do is "dare to dream"

Welcome aboard.

Welcome, I guess:) You be nice and we will be nice. I see that your leading scorer is a guard. Well, he is about to meet Mr. Craft. Best of luck next season.

Yeah our leading scorer is Momo Jones. He was the starting PG for Arizona 2 years ago when they made it to the elite 8. Craft without a doubt will be the best defender he has faced at least the 2 years he has been at Iona. To be honest this is not the matchup we wanted. We thought we would get a 14 seed. Sean Armand is a great 3 pt shooter and also averages 17/game. The things we have going for us is that we do have a lot of BCS level players who transferred to Iona and this team has shown a lot of toughness. We need to shoot lights out and for OSU to be off their game or looking ahead, somehow be in the game midway thru the second half and see what happens. Really just hoping for a competitive game

You should post your thoughts in our game thread which is a little further down this page. You don't have to bet to post in that thread.

I might be way off base but I don't anticipate any problems with Ohio State winning this game. You don't have my size and if you depend on your backcourt to do the majority of your scoring you are in big trouble.

The guy from S/I picked us to lose to New Mexico.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

The other guy from SI (Luke Winn) picked us to get to the Final Four:

Teams Warranting Special Attention

The Freight Train That is Ohio State: I figured the Buckeyes would be a great sleeper pick as a No. 3 or 4 seed ... until they surged all the way up to a No. 2 by winning eight straight to close the season. Indiana and Michigan controlled most of the Big Ten spotlight, but be aware that Ohio State has a better defense than either of those teams, ranking No. 6 in efficiency. These Buckeyes are playing D as stingily as last year's Final Four team did, and although their offense isn't at the same level, go-to-guy Deshaun Thomas is getting just enough help from Aaron Craft in the scoring department for them to get by. Ohio State is like Louisville Lite, and its great D paired with its top-20 offense makes it the most attractive team in a weak West Region.

...

Regional Finals:
Louisville over Duke in the Midwest.
Ohio State over Wisconsin in the West.
Indiana over Miami in the East.
Florida over Michigan in the South.

I think this is excellent advice on how to ruin your bracket:)
1. Go with the biggest trends. All week you're going to hear about St. Louis and Bucknell and the 12/5 upset that history says will happen. Don't be taken in by the wisdom of crowds. Following trends may feel right in the moment, then, boom, it's five years later and you're looking back at photos of yourself wearing skinny jeans and a trucker hat and wondering where it all went wrong. Fill out a bracket you can be proud of in three weeks, win or lose. Be your own bracketologist. Trends flame out quickly. St. Louis and Bucknell are great picks, but they're not as great if everyone else in your pool has them too. You win by zigging when other poolers zag.
8. Go with Notre Dame. Only once in its past 11 tournament appearances has Notre Dame advanced past the first weekend. This is good news for both Ohio State and people who value their retinas.
10. Follow other people's advice. The guy who tells you he has a good feeling about Harvard this year is either: a) trying to mess with your head or b) Tommy Amaker. Don't listen to advice from anyone else, especially me; I haven't won anything since the sixth grade. Go with your gut. But if you're in my pool, go with Harvard. I've got a good feeling about them this year.
