I wouldn't say "with ease", but it's much better on an iPhone with the new forum software than trying to do it on vB.

For starters, the quick reply at the bottom of each page is much quicker - you don't have to click on a quick reply icon in a post to use it, you just tap on the text entry field and go.

Also, you get WYSIWYG features, even on mobile devices, which is the biggest upgrade as far as your question is concerned.

I think you'll find it dramatically improved. The majority of my testing on the new environment is on a phone and ipad. Attaching an image from those devices, as either an inline full image or thumbnail, or as an actual attachment, is (I think) natural and easy.

That's the goal. There are still some major hurdles to clear, and as the result of delayed coding and substantial ad issues related to responsive design it's coming down to the wire.

What I don't want to do is try to migrate after the season has started. So I figure I've got about a week and a half to get things sorted out.

It's a round-the-clock effort.

WE WILL BE DOWN SUNDAY FOR THE MIGRATION.

I expect to shut the site down around 1pm ET. I have no ETA for its return. I expect just the data migration and conversion to take around 6 hours. After that, there's going to be some essential work just to get the new site running, and to make sure everything is intact.

I intend to bring the new site up as soon as possible. Meaning, while we're still working on it after the data is moved. So Sunday night, expect it to be shut down periodically, expect wholesale changes to forum structure, expect features to NOT be present when we first come back up that will be added throughout the evening, and possibly into Monday.

Any change requires a little bit of patience and an open mind. Here's what I'm absolutely comfortable saying -- once you've adapted and you're familiar with Xenforo, you're going to wonder how we ever survived on vBulletin. If you don't know how to do something in the new system, just ask, one or more of the people who have been involved with the prep can try to answer questions and point people in the right direction.

XF is made by the original VB developers. It's completely different and modern software, but there's going to be a philosophical and functional familiarity built in for everyone. Please be patient, I expect Sunday to be a very long day for myself, and it may be that I don't get as much done as I want, or it could be that we have problems with the massive data migration that makes that 6 hours substantially longer (oh how I hope that's not the case).

Anyway, we've only a few days left here on vB, which has been our base for a full decade. Pretty crazy. I hope each of you will be and/or become huge fans of the next step forward.

This is going to be an awesome move. So much good stuff up front, and I'm excited about all the possibilities that exist once we all settle in and familiarize ourselves with the new digs.

Clarity has been planning out this move for well over a year at this point, and while he'll have support, he's doing pretty much all the heavy lifting, either directly or overseeing our helpers. Let's try to keep non-essentials off his plate the next few days to make things a little easier.

I'm also going to mention that LongwoodBuck and I are going to be pretty tyrannical about Clarity getting some down-time on Sunday, even if I have to drive out there and kidnap his computer so he takes a breather. So while being back up Sunday is the goal, that won't happen at the expense of C-dog's health, whether that means delaying the reopen or going with fewer features. I know everyone here is fine with that, but just wanted to put it out there so Clarity knows we're all on the same page on this.

And once it's all ready, it's going to be AWESOME. :biggrin:

BP will be back and better than ever. I wanted to make sure that everyone notices this thread so I made the title more alarming. Rest assured this is a temporary downtime.


PMs will transfer and graphics should as well but if you are like me and you haven't cleaned out your inbox in years this is a good excuse.

At the bottom of the inbox page in the bottom rate there I'd a download messages option. This will put all messages into one file which you could store on your computer or email it to yourself to archive it. Also download your sent messages if you want those.

Then you can open those archive files, make sure it downloaded properly and then finally delete the hundreds or thousands of stale PMs in your inbox.

Note you don't have to delete them but archiving them would be a good idea for many reasons.
